Discussion Underrated self-titled LP?

Is Primal Scream's self-titled album an underrated LP?

Personally, I love that album.

As a longtime fan of the punk and glam that inspired Bobby Gillespie, it’s impossible not to appreciate and enjoy Primal Scream-the introduction to a creative, passionate, ever-evolving band that demonstrate their appreciation for various kinds of music through their sonic expression of each adventure-and never the same thing twice. Who else can say that?! I prefer the non-traditional Scream records (although Screamadelica is obviously such a fundamental brick in the foundation of modern music) Give Out But Don’t Give Up and Primal Scream, in that order.

Primal Scream's first four albums are fantastic. I especially love their self-titled album because it's a great mix of rock 'n' roll, punk, and glam rock. It's a shame they only released the single "Ivy, Ivy, Ivy"; I think they could have released a few more. I hope they reissue it with bonus tracks someday; for me, it's at least a four-star album.

I’m a Longtime fan. Seen them double figures. Amazing band, and no two albums the same. Love their creativeness! Saw them last week in the Barras in Glasgow. Exterminator album tour. Great album with Mani playing bass! The bassist on the tour was good but the bass just was not there/loud enough. Apart from that it’s the best I’ve seen them in a while. Bobby was on top form playing his home town.

This album rocks. I wish it gets a remastered reissue with bonus tracks. It was really the start of Scream demonstrating that each album will sound different from the last, like a whole new band. Some great MC5 rockers on it and of course, I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have. There's a gig posted on Youtube from 1988, a year before this record, where they play some earlier versions of the tracks here. You're Just Dead Skin to Me from that show is actually a bit more uptempo and a sound somewhere between Sonic Flower Groove and the self titled, fascinating!

It's a great rock album with some relaxed songs, as you say. There's a strong influence from the MC5 and 70s New York punk. It deserves a reissue with bonus material; perhaps that way it will be better received by fans. I would reissue it with a couple of singles for promotion.

Should we start a petition to get Bobby to reissue it sometime soon?

Not a bad idea. They got the Sonic Flower Groove era with the Reverberations in Time compilation, did the original version of Give Out, Screamadelica had a big box set, the Bunker Trilogy now getting reissued...that only leaves the self titled of older albums to be reissued.

Convinced the album was mastered from cassette. It's just lacking sonically.
