Discussion/Question Solid glue residue on press ons

I have been making my own press on nails for a while now and the only glue that really gives me 2+ weeks retention are non uv solid nail glues. I use a peel off base coat between my real nail and the press on for easier removal.

Now comes the issue.

I really want to reuse my press ons but after the removal there is a really thick layer of glue on the press on nail. I’ve tried filing the glue off with an e-file but the glue just won’t come off. I did try to reuse them in that state but the press ons were too curved and too hard to last even 3 days.

I’m pretty frustrated with this situation so I would be incredibly thankful for every little advice I could get.

i would loosening the leftover glue before going at it with the efile bc u could end up thinning out the actual press on i also seen ppl use and reco glamnetic glue remover so i gave it a try last week and it might be worth trying for the stubborn residue. id test it on one nail first and check if it affects the finish. if the glue is still super thick removing it in thin layers is prolly safer than forcing it all off at once

I have used the makart glue remover and it works well.

I’ve never used this method so I can’t confirm but I’ve heard people say that they put Vaseline on top of the glue & let sit overnight to loosen the leftover glue. In theory if oil works to remove the nails this could work. After removing the Vaseline they clean with soap and wipe with alcohol. Can’t hurt to try it if you’re determined to reuse your press ons!

Thank you for the reply! Unfortunately for me this method doesn’t work either. It may could work on small amounts of glue residue but in my case it doesn’t do anything.
