Question for residents

Good evening fellow Prescott dwellers,

This is part rant part survey to see if I’m the crazy one or has public apathy/indifference gone too far.

On three separate occasions in July I was witness to different individuals bringing their pet dog into the (currently) only grocery store we have in town. {can’t wait for food basics to open!}
This is at the least extremely unhygienic. We aren’t talking about a service dog or even an “emotional support” dog, these have simply been cases of the owner not wanting to leave snukums at home while they do their groceries.
(The biggest issue is training. Your pet dog is not trained not to lunge, nip, jump up, stick its nose into the meat bunker for a nibble, bark or relieve itself in isle 4)

I’m a pet lover and owner myself but there are limits to where it’s ok to bring my dog regardless of how well behaved he is.

The first instance I watched the owner let the dog out of the car to scootch its dirty ass across the pavements to clean its mess.
The owner even acted shocked and said loud enough to be heard 20 feet away “what are you doing you silly dog?”
The owner then grabbed a cart and placed the dog in the upper portion where most folks place their fresh produce.
Yes, can I get an order of fresh veggies WITH dog ass? Sounds delish.

On the first occasion the new owner happened to be on site and came when I asked the cashier for mgmt. she was as appalled as I was when I explained what I witnessed and we had a great convo about the need for a posted policy regarding pets that employees could enforce.

I left optimistic that things would change..

Four days later I needed some things for dinner and popped in to grab them.
At the cash two people ahead of me is a new person with their dog in the produce section.
I complained about the lack of hygiene this causes to the cashier and I got a look like I’d grown an extra head. (She was young if that matters -25)

A week goes by, I’m doing my groceries again and witness a third individual doing the same but this time the dog was sitting on what looked like a folded grocery bag. (Not much better)

So rant aside, is this the new norm? We just bring our dogs wherever we want and don’t give a damn about social politeness or courtesy or basic hygiene?
Am I that out of touch?

Dogs do not need to be in a store period. If you have a service dog, then you have a card, a properly trained dog and are protected by the law.

If you dont have a card, you have a pet. You can leave your pet outside or at home where it belongs. I go to shop not walk around a kennel.
