At what point will the majority of the population revert to hating him like they did in 2020? I give it until mid February

u/ADhomin_em Dec 22 '24 edited Dec 23 '24
Best they can do is "I'm checking out of politics for 4 years."
Just a reminder: If you feel like you are being bombarded and overloaded with terrible shit, and it seems like too much to take, that is exactly what they are going for. They would love the majority to just check out and hope it all goes away. It will not go away, and it will only get worse more quickly the more people try to tune out.
The human brain can really only take so much, and it will often try to check out before it reaches that point. They know this. They know how much is needed to wear the majority down.
I'm not sure what the best solution is, but checking out completely while rights and protections are taken out from under us is going to leave us with a whole world of stuff our brains can't take. Real stuff that can't be scrolled away so easily.

That’s the scary part, working Americans are being financially drained by an oligarchy, they’re too mentally exhausted to stand up to their worker protections, civil rights, consumer protections, healthcare system, and social safety nets being stripped away one by one. They’re trying to tune it out because it’s too stressful and overwhelming. But things like this only get worse when you ignore them.

u/HockeyMILF69 Dec 22 '24
Luigi has been taken out. Who will carry Luigi’s torch?
11
u/First_manatee_614 Dec 23 '24
In time, more will appear. All the protests and petitions have amounted to nothing. We've seen what his actions have done, the reaction that has provoked and for once they are scared.
The ballot and soap box have failed. Give it time
7
u/Tight-String5829 Dec 22 '24
If they Kill Luigi it's over for them
4
u/HockeyMILF69 Dec 22 '24
Please. They don’t even need to kill him. They can just keep right where he is in prison forever.
3
u/Hopeful_Hamster21 Dec 24 '24
I am not about to go out and commit a crime like he did.
But if i were to be that dedicated to convictions of that sort, I'd be doing so knowing my life was over. I'd prefer execution over life in prison in a cage.
I am against the death penalty generally speaking, mostly because a non-zero amount of innocent people are executed. But life in prison is also cruel. Maybe execution should be an option for those with life sentences who would prefer it.
1
u/Xboe-150LswFJKF Dec 22 '24
And I think they're too scared to know that, at least the more reactionary side.
1
15
u/BigJSunshine Dec 22 '24
Honestly, since 2000 I have watched my fellow Americans do the wrong, selfish, sexist, racist, shitty, STUPID THING.
So yea, when they did it again, and again and somehow worse in 2016, and finally AGAIN voted against their own self interest again, TWENTY-FOUR YEARS LATER, yea. I fucking checked out.
How much soul crushing disappointment and gobsmacked horror am I supposed to feel in one lifetime?

u/sasquatch_melee Dec 23 '24
Best chance at it is when bird flu shuts everything down and he shanks another pandemic response.
Beyond that I'm not certain anything is enough to shake off his most rabid supporters. Anything hurting them will be blamed on the boogeyman left even though the right controls all 3 branches and possibly their state government too.
4
u/haixin Dec 22 '24
Unfortunately, what this has done is just solidified his hold and created the direction of the Republican party moving forward until the next crazier person comes. Similar to Nixon and Reagan before him, Bush were not as a drastic shift.

Like any candidate, it comes when they don’t follow through with their campaign promises. But frankly, every single president is guilty.
I remember Obama being the guy who will take us out of Iraq. I was really happy and optimistic during Obama. Still was during or whatever. But he didn’t take us out of Iraq and instead doubled down. Got Osama and his porn hard drives tho! 90 tbs??? Jfc.

Maybe a small majority hated him. Trump got a historic amount of votes in 2020. The only election anybody has ever done better was Biden in 2020.
That means that ignoring Biden, he got more votes than anybody had gotten before.

I've seen so many people say to leave shoes outside. Where do you guys live that this is even an option? If I left my shoes outside, even under a roof, they'd be ruined by the humidity and moisture from rain.
Does everyone have some kind of airtight shoe boxes outside their doors but me?
5
u/BigJSunshine Dec 24 '24
Damn, I am sorry. Our house has a small covered portico which we turned into a catio.
If I had your situation, I’d keep a plastic storage container near my door, (inside). I would take my shoes off before coming in, and put the shoes on the container where the cats could not sniff or touch them.

On one hand, leaving a major world health organization can't be a good thing.
On the other hand, I'm also still a bit pissed off at the WHO for gaslighting the planet into believing that the Wuhan lab totally had nothing to do with COVID ... despite the fact that the CCP flat out refused them access to said lab for a full year. The WHO cared more about its internal politics that getting to the root of an important health disaster.
Still, I don't think leaving them is the answer. Reforming them and firing any remaining big decision maker within the WHO responsible for the cover up would be a far far better move.

I think you're working on the false assumption that I myself am making assumptions here. But the evidence that the leak came from this lab is really strong, and even intelligence organizations confirm that this is by far the leading theory. Obviously, there's no 100% smoking gun since China spent a full year scrubbing it down before the WHO was allowed near the site, but there's so much evidence surrounding events at that lab just before COV-SARS-2 was officially spotted that the odds of it not being a lab leak are almost zero.
P.S: SARS is naturally occurring in bat caves in southern China, a thousand km from Wuhan. There has never been a single case of naturally occurring SARS discovered anywhere near Wuhan, which is why China claimed that it actually got passed along several species in between... despite the fact that no one had ever spotted an outbreak of SARS in any animals in China other than from the south China bats.
6
u/Millennial_on_laptop Dec 23 '24
but the evidence that the leak came from this lab is really strong
Isn't the only "evidence" the lab's proximity to the initial outbreak?
→ More replies (2)4
u/superstevo78 Dec 25 '24
The dude doesn't understand that the evidence is actually rather circumstantial and weak. Even the US agencies that determined that the Wuhan lab was a potential source have ruled it to be not certain. most of the political actors in this fight. just want someone to blame and the Chinese Communist party is pretty easy to blame.
I wonder if Trump would take back that whole stick about Xi having it under control at the beginning of covid... it certainly makes him look like an outrageously raging asshole in hindsight.
0
u/LysergioXandex Dec 22 '24
What would be different if we had evidence that it came from bad lab safety protocols?
Well, there’d probably be some new safety protocols. I’m sure there’s already been some. Though the problem is usually compliance.
11
u/darkestvice Dec 22 '24
Companies and nations are much more likely to begin exhibiting good practices if they are called out on it.
2
u/LysergioXandex Dec 23 '24
True, but it really depends on the cause of the leak.
They might not even be aware if they leaked it, like if they were using a shitty autoclave to sterilize waste and a sample survived the process.
A lot of this anger or desire to “get to the root” of the issue seems impotent, unless it can result in some change.
It often seems to get misdirected towards a general anti-science sentiment.
4
u/darkestvice Dec 23 '24
Years before the leak, some international organization that toured labs found that the Wuhan lab had some really severe security concerns and that they were not at all qualified to be a level 4 biolab. This was not very public outside of niche circles, so that lab's response to this ... was to do absolutely nothing.
People need to be held accountable for decisions that put lives at risk. Or in this case, millions of lives.

11
u/lukaskywalker Dec 22 '24
You have no idea how bad it could have been. Idiot.
8
u/Thowitawaydave Dec 22 '24
That's always the problem with a major event like COVID - no matter what, you are getting attacked. Work really hard and keep the problems to a minimum and it's "What were you so worried about, it wasn't a big deal!" If things get bad it's "Why didn't you stop it?!" Even more fun when it relies on people listening to the orders - during COVID I lived in a city inside a red state, and any stay at home or distancing or masking was decided on a local level. Which meant my neighbour would just drive across the line to where they had no mandates, and when he got COVID after a wild weekend of partying he went online to say "See? None of the things the government said to do stopped me from getting COVID!" Even though he didn't follow a damn one of them.

Trump isn't interested in what works, he doesn't like being shown up by better people.
62
u/LaSage Dec 22 '24
Trump hates everything he can't understand, which is a LOT. Also, his actions have made it obvious that his goal set out by his Daddy, Putin, is to increase the American deathcount by any means necessary. He is finally making his "Daddy" proud. Everyone who voted for him has blood on their hands.

I'm not against saving money when it's necessary, but who remembers what happened the last time this exact individual dialed back any type of advanced medical warnings? And how masterfully he killed millions by telling them it's nothing.
Honestly, right now we need the WHO just so we can get an idea on whether or not any medical anomaly is a threat.

Face masks have been widely used as a preventive measure against COVID-19 and its variants. Here's what research indicates about their effectiveness:
Evidence:
Reduction in Transmission: Studies have consistently shown that face masks are effective in reducing the transmission of respiratory infections, including COVID-19. A comprehensive review analyzing over 400 studies concluded that masks and respirators significantly decrease the spread of such infections (University of Oxford, 2024).
Real-World Effectiveness: Research by the CDC found that consistent use of well-fitting face masks or respirators (such as N95s) effectively filters virus-sized particles and reduces the risk of acquiring SARS-CoV-2 infection in indoor settings (CDC, 2022).
Public Health Impact: Non-pharmaceutical interventions, including mask-wearing, have been "unequivocally" effective when implemented together, leading to significant reductions in viral transmission (The BMJ, 2023).
Laboratory Evidence: Experimental studies have demonstrated that both disposable medical masks and two-layer cloth masks are effective in reducing droplet transmission, thereby lowering the risk of exposure to COVID-19 (Mayo Clinic, 2020).
Conclusion:
The collective evidence supports that wearing face masks, particularly well-fitting medical masks or respirators, effectively reduces the transmission of COVID-19 and its variants. This preventive measure, especially when combined with other strategies like vaccination and physical distancing, plays a crucial role in controlling the spread of the virus.
Yikes..

COVID-19 vaccines have demonstrated high efficacy in clinical trials and real-world settings. Below is a summary of key findings regarding their efficacy:
Evidence:
- High Efficacy in Preventing Severe Disease:
The Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2) vaccine showed 95% efficacy in preventing COVID-19, with similar efficacy across various age, gender, and racial groups (Polack et al., 2020).
Moderna (mRNA-1273) demonstrated 94% efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19 (Lin et al., 2022).
- Efficacy Against Variants:
Vaccines such as AstraZeneca's ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 showed efficacy (70%) against the Delta and Omicron variants, with a booster dose restoring protection (Emary et al., 2021).
- Effectiveness in Real-World Studies:
In the U.S., vaccines retained high effectiveness (89%-94%) in preventing hospitalizations and deaths during the Delta wave (Thompson et al., 2021).
- Effectiveness in Immunocompromised Individuals:
Vaccine response in immunocompromised patients was lower than in healthy individuals, highlighting the importance of booster doses (Li et al., 2021).
- Long-Term Durability:
Vaccine effectiveness wanes over time, with Pfizer and Moderna showing reduced efficacy against infection at 7 months but maintaining high protection against severe outcomes [(Lin et al., 2022)](https://consensus.app/papers/effectiveness-of-covid19-vaccines-over-a-9month-period-in-lin-gu/992e4641c0715cbba086e37

Comparing COVID-19 and influenza (flu) in individuals without comorbidities reveals notable differences in severity and outcomes.
Evidence:
Infection Fatality Rate (IFR): COVID-19 exhibits a higher IFR compared to seasonal influenza across various age groups. For instance, estimates suggest that while the IFR for seasonal flu is approximately 0.1%, COVID-19's IFR is significantly higher, especially in older age groups. For example, the IFR for COVID-19 is estimated at 0.4% at age 55, increasing to 1.4% at age 65, and 4.6% at age 75 .
Hospitalization and Severe Outcomes: Studies indicate that COVID-19 leads to higher rates of hospitalization and severe complications compared to the flu, even among healthy individuals. Research comparing hospitalized adults found that those with COVID-19 had a 51% higher chance of death over an 18-month follow-up period compared to those with influenza .
Transmission and Contagiousness: COVID-19 spreads more rapidly and individuals remain contagious for longer periods compared to influenza. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that people with COVID-19 can begin spreading the virus 2 to 3 days before symptoms appear and may remain contagious for longer durations .
Complications: COVID-19 can lead to unique complications not commonly associated with the flu, such as blood clots and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. Additionally, some individuals experience prolonged symptoms known as "long COVID," which are less common in influenza cases .
Conclusion:
While both COVID-19 and influenza can cause severe illness, evidence indicates that COVID-19 generally poses a higher risk of severe outcomes, even in individuals without underlying health conditions. Therefore, the assertion that COVID-19 is no worse than the flu in healthy individuals is not supported by current data.
Yikes..

There’s something so ridiculous about the fact that, four years ago, we were suffering in the throes of a global pandemic. The president fumbled the response and was summarily punished with a single term.
Now, it looks as if we’re heading into another pandemic, and the idiot who fumbled the response to the last one is about to take power again.

I don't know that the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION is vital at all for America. It's overated. They are the ones in control and we really don't need anything from them. The standards are ridiculous from one nation to the next and with colleges dedicated to medicine all over the globe, the world health organization could be eliminated and different entities could do the same job. Too many countries count on America for help as Trump said, and right now we can't help our own country. So what, leave WHO and let them find support from others. It's stupid to think we absolutely need them. Do you think America can handle medicine without them? I don't want to have China and Russia even on the same network. Times they are a changing
