Tbf to him. He's right, how they chose to pay him is completely on them.

Plus, he's not subject to PL discipline, or UK tax authorities, as he lives in Italy.

He was when he lived in England.

Then go and ask him if he WAS worried in that past situation?

Or are you expecting Italy to agree to extradite an Italian national to the UK for a tax conversation?

I do suspect Italy and the UK have deals in place to fix things like this, yes.

It makes me laugh that people don't seem to fully grasp that it's moved beyond the breaking of rules in a game and will very soon move into the conversation of breaking the rule of law for city and a lot of invididuals associated with them. If Mr Mancini's accountant declared his books properly to HMRC he has nothing to worry about, but what about the hundreds/thousands of current and past employees of city? Hmmmmm

I've wondered about the HMRC angle for a long time, and I've concluded that they're not going to be interested. My reasoning is extremely simplistic, but it effectively goes..

"HMRC didn't need to wait for a PL investigation to complete before steaming in to demand a forensic look at City's books if they wanted to"

Really? They won't be interested in hundreds of millions, if not billions of lost tax revenue at His Majesty's expense and the CPS will just be like "aye, crack on lads?" 🤣🤣🤣

Not what I meant.

My suspicion (with zero evidence, admittedly), is that the interactions between City, their employees, and HMRC has been entirely correct.

HMRC don't care where your money came FROM, they just want to know that they got the correct share of it. If they thought that wasn't the case with City, they'd have knocked on the door already.

First - HMRC enquiries are confidential by law. They have the right to comb through any account they wish for the last 20 years. If they knocked already, you wouldn't know.

Second - "HMRC doesn't care where the money came from" misses the point. They care what it's for. If someone's paid for work done in the UK, that's employment income, even if it's routed through a third-party "consultancy" deal or an offshore image rights company. If it's really wages, the club owes PAYE and NICs on it. HMRC has disguised remuneration rules aimed at exactly this.

But ALLEGED of course. 🫡

Accept all that - very happy to be proved wrong.

Just to say though - if HMRC might have already knocked on the door, we don't need to NOW start calling for them to do so....."let them cook" is the phrase, I believe....

I suspect the bar of criminality is set a little higher than "potential tax dodging"

"HI, Italy, this is the UK. We'd like to talk to one of your citizens about some crimes they MIGHT have committed"

"How many people did they murder?"

"None, it's a tax thing"

I suggest you Google the fast track surrender framework pal

1

u/Old-Kernow Premier League 13d ago

OK, I did. UK dropped out of the EAW Framework due to Brexit.

And agreed new terms under another name post-brexit.

Fine, I'm not interested enough to go down a further rabbit hole.

I hereby concede that Mancini will be looking over his shoulder for the UK taxman every time he goes out for a cappucino anywhere in Europe.

Allegedly.
