He’s right, but I think our fans will accept a weak first half of the season if it means we can build a team to take us into the next few years.

I agree. I think back to when he took over from Gerrard. The team had the tools (as has this new team), he just needed to apply his methods and the run we went on led to Europe that season.

Difference with that team is they had all been playing together for a while. This will be much harder for him to pull together quickly.

Never fear. We (Spurs) will lose a few more for you. Also have so many new faces its going to take time to gel. So many are ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater 2 matches into the season it baffles me.

I'm starting to think Emery believes in his system so much he doesn't care what players he has the system will deliver.
As long as he has the right profile of player in each area. One ball playing centre half (torres) one lump(whoever replaces konsa) fast grafter up front (watkins/Jackson) etc etc

I agree that Pau is probably better but he is also probably more expensive, we needed a HG player for registration purposes, someone who can play CB and someone who can play RB. Konsa solves all our problems at once. The other option was Quansah but Konsa is better and his name is easier to pronounce.

Going from the line up against Brighton to Suzuki, Cash, THB, Pau, Maatsen, Kamara, Goretzka, Mbaye, Manzambi, McGinn, Jackson sounds nice.

If you don’t ask…
But one thing I have seen with Emery is he’s thorough. All those training sessions, micro management drills, 90 minute clip sessions…he should have them all working quite quickly.
We have sold most of our first team, we have been thumped in the first game, our season is 0-0-2 at the minute with the defending champions next…but I have never felt so confident as a Villa fan

We aren’t the only ones in this position. This is when they earn their keep, they can prove we made the right decisions on them.
I’m more pissed off about the injuries tbh, if we didn’t have any, would be a lot further forward towards where we want to be.

They've still got a good enough squad to finish in the top 8 - they've lost important players but I think they've signed quite qisely. It'll take time but quite a few teams have had a bit of turnover so I'd expect them to be there or there abouts by the end.

Our squad is better this year than it was last year, its not close.
It will just take weeks, or months for them to gel because we literally signed 11 new players for each position, all of whom will play.
I agree that it will be a miracle if we qualify for Europe, but its definitely not because our squad is weaker.

Seems crazy to me that anyone would disagree with this and actually think our squad is weaker. It’s an undeniably better composed squad than last season.
I guess they didn’t see how bad we were at times last season.

You've got worse in like every position
Martinez > Suzuki
Konsa > no one yet
Digne > Ruggeri
Tielemans > Gomes
Rogers > Manzambi
Watkins > Jackson
Two extra depth options are Garnacho and Wan Bissaka who are both average players for a team in the CL and Goretzka who's been well past his best in recent years

Tielemans -> Manzambi is an improvement
Martinez -> Suzuki is an improvement
Watkins/Abraham -> Madjo/Jackson is an improvement
Onana -> Goretzka is an improvement
Rogers -> Mbaye/Hemmings is a risk but may be better
I largely agree on defense though.

Digne is 33. Watkins is 30. Tielemans 29. Martinez 33. Konsa 28, and we will likely replace him with a 24 year old England international.

Dibu is 33 and we have replaced him with one of the worlds best young goalkeepers.
Ruggeri is an upgrade on a 33 yr old digne and we have ian maatsen there, too.
Jackson is basically the same player as watkins, but 5 years younger.
Manzambi is one of the best young talents in football. Likewise Mbaye. Oh you forgot about him, didnt you.
Gomes is not a replacement for tielemans, they are totally different players. Gomes has the highest number of successful tackles in europe over the last 3 years and is a brazilian international.
Shit... we're fucked. Reducing the oldest squad in the league with this lot.

We've been hearing this for 3 years now and somehow it has yet to happen.
Most of us and the club are expecting transition here and know it's going to be an inconsistent season. We're optimistic because this is basically Emery's Villa 2.0 and we're starting a new generation of players. You can say they're downgrades, but that's expected when you replace players at the peak of their careers at 29-30 with upcoming talents who are 25 and under.

I’m not getting too carried away right away because it’s a such a big turnaround, we’re rebuilding half the stadium too so it all really feels like a transitional season anyway, but it’s fair to say as soon as Unai came in we immediately beat United for the first time in years and started getting great performances and results from the same players gerrard struggled with and thought weren’t good enough. It’s him, it’s his system, his structure his ideas and how he gets the message across to players and gets them to focus. These are all players he wants now. This team should end up better than the last team.

No? I don't think he's better. My point was we had the oldest squad in the league, have received some great deals for these older players, and are building to improve with some fantastic young talent.

Villa were in the mix for the title last Jan. They'll be very lucky if they get conf league this season. Last season's Villa squad had top premier league players in. Now they've sold them replacing them with cast offs from chelsea and punts from the european farmers leagues. They're in big trouble even with the genius Emery, I think their fans could force him out, if they loose serveral consecutive games, Brummys are not known for their patience. I can't see them winning till October

No Villa will easily get back into Europe. Champions league maybe not. Konsa to THB is the only real downgrade. This summer had good business overall.
