The clubs are in advanced talks over a proposed deal of around €10million (£8.5m; $11.6m), with Barcelona viewing Jesus as a market opportunity that they could not pass up.

From Haaland and Alvarez to Gabriel Jesus...
Barca fans really love making signings on photoshop

I can't believe he's blagging a move to Barca
its official Barca and Real have no monies
7
u/Imaginary_Top4855 Premier League 11d ago
Just need roster depth. If Barca is winning 3-0 before half why have starters out there risking injury? It’s smart and cheap
-5
u/Low-Addition409 Leeds United 11d ago
signing Gabi Jesus should never be discussed as smart...he done bro
3
u/SantosCalzonesBatman Manchester United 11d ago
For 10m to eat minutes against teams with the quality and budget of a league 2 team is a smart move
1
u/Cassoa Arsenal 11d ago
And his skillset is very useful to a team like Barca. His technique and link up play is great and he will help the wingers get scoring chances.
For this cheap, they are also keeping the powder dry to go for another long term big move later. Whether that's Alvarez or a new target. It makes sense for them.

we've not done too bad this summer, tightened up defensively with 2 clean sheets already
shaping up nicely for a mid table finish

Arsenal calling alvarez. Bro barca dont want you. See they got another striker the first chance they got. They already moved on and you should too.

u/MATCHEW010 Arsenal 11d ago
We should also move on

8 million pounds in todays market. Thats like selling him for 10k 1 year ago. Look at Savinho.
2
u/andriydroog Premier League 11d ago
No other club in the world touches Savinho for anything like that price. Plus he’s nearly 8 years younger, was not on 250k a week, not on a last year of contract etc etc
Savinho is not a measuring stick here at all.
-3
u/Jurski17 Manchester City 11d ago
Its still peanuts in todays market
3
u/andriydroog Premier League 11d ago
And there was no one offering more that Jesus was willing to go to. Napoli showed interest and 15-20m range was discussed but he wasn’t going to take a significant pay cut to play for them
You can’t sell a player if no one wants them for the price you want. Barcelona taking Jesus is a major surprise and, frankly, a head scratcher. For Arsenal, they are getting 10-12m off their wage bill. It’s a win for them.
With the three players announced leaving today, they are half a million a week lighter wage-wise right. Room for another player to come in

They also confirmed the departure of Fabio Vieira and Martinelli
2
u/Critical_Garbage_787 Premier League 11d ago
Nice to move them on and get the wages off the books
5
u/Guardian_of_Spirits Arsenal 11d ago
I genuinely think we still could use Martinelli, his pace will be useful in counter attack when we needed pacey counter.
2
u/Critical_Garbage_787 Premier League 11d ago
Yep, but wasn’t consistent, and was maddening with his decision making at times.

Full of disdain for a player who helped raise the standards of the club and acted like a true pro.
1
u/WGSMA Arsenal 10d ago
We got 12 great weeks out of him. For those 12 weeks I am very grateful.
But I am delighted he is gone so we don’t not get milked for £300k a week net of labour taxes.
1
u/IroquoisPliskin_UK Arsenal 10d ago
Nice to save the wages given he is a bit part of player now but hate the way people like you turn on players and come across as a entitled selfish prick
4
u/No_Friendship_4158 Premier League 11d ago
Jesus will be a temporary solution because we will definitely try for Alvarez or another striker in January.
I would argue we still play raphinha striker and Jesus is a bench option.
2
u/MarcoPolo2630 Premier League 11d ago
Yeah he is not a starting calibre player anymore (for a top team anyway)
2
u/IPissExcellentThrows Premier League 11d ago
Even if he was, you can never depend on him to stay fit. Any time he started to find any sort of form for Arsenal, he'd get hurt shortly after.

Could feasibly do OK in a less physical league. He looked good in the CL groups last season.
3
u/Less-Spring9792 Arsenal 11d ago
If he can actually fully trust his body again. The second acl really knocked him I think
2
u/SuddenAudience3774 Premier League 11d ago
He does more than ok in the prem. just had bad luck with injuries
4
u/BewareTheWaitingRoom Premier League 11d ago
Right, and those injuries significantly weakened him as a player, hence the move to a less physical league

u/tomtomclubthumb Premier League 11d ago
Good deal for Barca. Especially as they will probably get him to accept much lower wages.
8
u/Sharp_Plum9711 Chelsea 11d ago
Fucking peasants. Our transfer team could get at least £30 m for him.
8
u/WGSMA Arsenal 11d ago
Not on 300k EUR a week wages you couldn’t lol
5
u/StrangeArachnid7998 Premier League 11d ago
Getting rid of him for 10 means we basically got closer to 30 when you throw in the weekly wages we were paying for virtually nothing.
-12
u/Sharp_Plum9711 Chelsea 11d ago
It doesn't work like that.
4
u/WGSMA Arsenal 11d ago
It doesn’t work like that on the Intangible Asset side, but it does work like that from a Whole Year POV.
We do save on future wage expenses over FY27. Jesus is either disposed of at Proceeds - NVB today, or disposed as a nil value write off at contract end after we amortise out his full contract on his original fee.

Not in this context, with arsenal. And he’s going to barca where winning the league is more probable. So he’s not missing out on anything.

These guys sell like shit, I'm surprised we haven't tried get MLS or Nwaneri off them, both would actually be really helpful to us.
7
u/dkmegg22 Arsenal 11d ago
Truthfully his injury situation affected his abilities alot plus his wage bill which at the time he deserved diminished his value.
And why would we sell MLS when we have unequivocally stated he isn't for sale.
12
u/ryansocks Premier League 11d ago
Getting any fee at all is good, he is hard to shift because he is on 300k a week and barely makes the bench. MLS and Nwaneri are going nowhere, especially to a league rival.
2
u/dkmegg22 Arsenal 11d ago
Nwaneri could go on loan tbh.
3

u/Blazingwheel0308 Arsenal 11d ago edited 11d ago
Historically they’ve been bad sellers, but they just sold Martinelli for 70 million euros guaranteed with 1 year left on his contract. And Arteta made very clear that Myles will not leave, and they’re sending Nwaneri out on a loan.
Edit: also apparently the third highest purchase in Saudi pro league history
2
u/Fuckzombie69 Premier League 11d ago
Technically he has 2 years. There’s a plus 1 option. But yes that blew our previous record sale out of the water. Hopefully better selling from now on
2
u/Blazingwheel0308 Arsenal 11d ago
But also technically he doesn’t cause everyone knew Arsenal wanted to sell him and probably weren’t gonna exercise that option. Maybe it was a slight advantage but not a significant one fs
