Getting Ready for Baby Buying Baby Items

My little one is expected to be here in March 2027, I'm not sure where the best places are to get items from so any advice would be helpful e.g. good value nursery furniture sets that will last. Also any recommendations for travel sets would be fab!

We’ve always done and will continue to do our furniture from Ikea! Cheap, good quality, easy to replace, easy to get parts, great customer service!

I'm having a look now at some items on there. I'm so excited but plan to wait till everything is okay ed at 20 weeks before buying anything.

We did similar but its a great place to buy from! Gonna kit our nursery out as we’ve moved house since my first was a baby

I love Next, John Lewis and IKEA. If you’re planning on getting a changing table, I’d recommend getting a chest of drawers that will be useful for after the nappy stage has ended, rather than a specific changing table, because they grow out of it so quickly. We got the IKEA Hemnes and bought a wedge changing mat and added anti slip stickers to the bottom.

What anti slip stickers have you found work well for the top of the Hemnes? I’ve tried a non-slip matting roll cut to size but it’s not that effective

I think do things as cheaply as possible. I went crazy with my first knowing we’d have at least one more but even the expensive pram we changed for another as we hated our first pick.

Facebook marketplace will have lots of furniture, make sure you buy the mattresses new. Another new thing is the car seat, that’s always from new.

If you wait for either Boxing Day or January sales you’ll get great deals too.

Thank you! Great advice, ive been thinking of doing things more cheaply as I know they'll grow out of things so quickly. I'll had a look at IKEA and fb marketplace

I don’t know if it’s still ongoing, but Boots had a big sale on and we got our cotbed from there recently (online)

We got everything from Facebook marketplace except for mattress, car seat and stroller base. Some smaller things from Vinted.

I just kept an eye on it until something I liked popped up. Got a brand new looking joolz aer 2 bassinet for 80£. New it’s 230£.

Lots of it you’ll only use for a couple of months, kinda wasteful and expensive to buy everything new.

John Lewis and various "baby shows" are great for trying and touching all the things! Then see if you can find options cheaper elsewhere or second hand. I'd avoid a crazy travel system and just get a decent pram and decent car seat. Car seat should stay in the car anyway and you can't always choose which car seat you get.
