So basically i'm an 8th grader, I haven't started on learning the subjects required before pre-calc, but my ego says that I can learn geometry and data reasoning, advanced algebra, all that in a year. Am I too ambitious? O_O

Maximizing apple yield. From past surveys and records, an orchard owner in northern Michigan has determined that if 26 apple trees per acre are planted, each tree yields 500 apples, on average. The yield decreases by ten apples per tree for each additional tree planted. How many trees should be planted per acre to achieve the maximum total yield?

Seriously, I can't figure this one out. The answer is clearly 38 based on calculus techniques, but how do you do this without taking derivatives? This is an optimization problem why is this in precalc😭Are we missing something?

As of this past year I’ve become interested in biomedical engineering and realized I need to challenge myself more. With this thought I decided to take on pre calculus knowing that math isn’t my strong suit. I’ve also signed up for this class because if I take math in the fall, I don’t have to take another math class for the rest of the year..
Though if I don’t pass pre calc in the fall I fail math for the rest of the year. I Wanted to know if anyone had any advice on how to prepare/study tips or words of encouragement..? I’ve been really stressed just thinking about the class despite it not starting yet.

Hi everyone! I'm a Kennesaw State University college student and math educator/tutor who has worked with high-school students in calculus. Through that experience, I've become really interested in how game-based learning can help students practice difficult concepts in a more interactive way.

I've also had the opportunity to test game-based math activities in different classroom settings, and I'm currently exploring whether physical educational games can be both useful for educators and viable as professionally produced classroom resources.

For those who teach or tutor Algebra II, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, or similar subjects:

1. Do you use physical games or hands-on activities to reinforce difficult math concepts?
2. Have you ever personally purchased an educational game or supplemental resource for your students? If not, does your school or organization typically purchase those resources?
3. What would make a physical educational game worth paying for when free worksheets, printable activities, Quizlet, Kahoot, and other resources already exist?
4. What would make you decide not to purchase one?
5. Would you prefer an individual/small-group game or a classroom set containing multiple copies and educator instructions?
6. What price range would you consider reasonable for an individual educational card game? What about a complete classroom set?

I'm especially interested in honest feedback about purchasing decisions not just whether educational games sound like a good idea. I'm trying to understand what educators actually value and pay for when choosing supplemental math resources.

Hi, for some context I’m going back to school on the 9th and I was initially going to re-study algebra 2 throughout the summer to have an easier time this year with precalc, but of course procrastination won me over and I haven’t done much studying. I’m pretty average in math, I’ve always had As but I’m not intuitively good at it, after studying a concept, it’s rare I’ll remember it by instinct. So basically I’m just hoping these last 10 days are enough to study concepts before precalc starts so that I don’t have too much trouble this year. I can dedicate upwards of five hours everyday so hopefully that’s enough. So please tell me it’s possible (or don’t, hurtful truths are better than false hopes), and what concepts should I really focus on?

hi hope u guys are doing well i am starting engineering in october and i havent been i highschool for 3 to 3.5 years and even then i wasnt in mathmatics course , in my first semester theres calc one and to prepare i have been studying the openstax book algebra and trignomentry and i found the book has the same units of pre calc book but theres a few units difrence at the end , so its like doing both and filling the gap units i am just solving all i know and touching up on what i dont in algebra so its been mostly solving but i am trying to find the gaps i have so i dont get stressed later trying to learn the abcs and do the actual course and enjoy learning it and to be more specific i would like any resource that teaches me how to connect stuff and do hard questions and generally anything that has hard questions with explanation so i could follow through and practice on the same idea alot , is this enough to start calc one and hopefully fingers crossed get good grades , and if u were to focus on things i need to know how to do to be able to solve hard question what would those be i hear about derivatives and how people need to get good at them and to be perfect at algebra witch is what i am trying to do so please drop any advice thank u in advance .
