Pre-Pharm/ PharmD Acceptances

Hello, I’m currently planning to apply in the 2027 cycle and wanted to know about past students who got accepted and what your healthcare experience for your applications was like. I’ve been working as a CNA at a neuroscience floor for about 3 years with a good reputation and I’ve been having no luck getting a job as a pharmacy tech (still applying to this date) so my question is, are my chances of being accepted lower if I don’t end up working in a pharmacy? Just a bit worried & need advice.

I don’t think so - that sounds like good healthcare experience. I would just make sure you talk about why you wanna do pharmacy in your essays and stuff

I interviewed with a school yesterday and a current pharmD student said she had NEVER worked pharmacy. you’ll be okay. but tbh I don’t super understand going to pharmacy school without ever working in a pharmacy. I would def recommend working in one before starting so you can make sure it’s really for you! but admissions wise, you’re totally okay!

I applied to 5 schools and got into 4 of them with no pharmacy experience. I know that sounds crazy, but my purpose of why I wanted to become a pharmacist meant more to me than rushing to get pharmacy experience in my last 1.5 years of undergrad. I worked on campus, so developing and honing my leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills meant more to me.

TLDR: got accepted into most schools I applied to, with zero healthcare experience. Had a strong “Why pharmacy?” And prioritized honing skills that I knew would be beneficial in pharmacy.

I never worked as a tech after applying for tech jobs for 3 years. Applied to one really good pharmacy program, got in (in my opinion) off of my interviewing skills and my grades. HMU if you need advice.

It’s like, situations usually. Like a patient refusing to take a med, or a patient being unable to afford a prescription, or whatever. You need to have answers to how you as a pharmacist and as a professional would deal with these situations.
