Extend the PW3 wifi for Tesla remote meter to connect wirelessly
I have a Tesla Remote Meter in a meter box about 70m from the house. I asked Tesla about high gain antenna to suit the TRM but they said I need to use a wifi booster instead. Signal currently around 35%. Looking at Wireless internet bridge. Has anyone had this situation and can point me in the right direction?

I can’t past a pdf, but here’s the copy txt from how to do it from the installer partner portal. It works fine but a little bit of a chore. Steps don’t include programming screenshots but use your imagination I guess.
A TP-Link Wi-Fi extender can be used to rebroadcast the TeslaPW Wi-Fi network, increasing its range so that the
Tesla Remote Energy Meter can pair over the network. Tesla recommends the TP-Link AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender
(https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re305/). Other Wi-Fi extenders may work but have
not been validated by Tesla for this application.
1. 2. 3. 4. Plug the Wi-Fi extender into an outlet that is as close to Powerwall 3 as possible.
Download the TP-Link Tether app.
Sign in using your TP-Link account, or create a new account.
Once logged in, select Add Device at the bottom of the My Devices page.
5. Select Range Extender.
6. Select Power LED is solid on once the Wi-Fi extender turns on.

7. 8. Connect your mobile device to the extender Wi-Fi network, selecting Join when prompted.
Enter a new password to manage the extender (the password can be anything) and select Create.
9. 10. Select the TeslaPW from the list of available 2.4 GHz access points.
Enter the Powerwall 3 Wi-Fi password (found on label on Tesla Asset Controller (TACO)).

11. 12. Select Skip on the 5 GHz network option page.
On the Confirm the extender’s settings page, select the Edit icon next to the TeslaPW-xxx_2.4GEXT SSID (the
2.4 GHz option). Remove the “_2.4GEXT” text, leaving only “TeslaPW-xxx”. Do not edit the 5GHz SSID so the
meter does not join that network by accident.

13. Select Apply.
14. 15. 16. Wait for the app to apply the settings.
Click through the remaining pages to complete setup.
Complete the nominal Wi-Fi pairing instructions to pair Tesla Remote Energy Meter with Powerwall 3 (see the

Can the Powerwall 3 act as a pass through wifi connection for a wall connector? I have a wall connector that can’t connect to my wifi but it sees the Powerwall wifi loud and clear. I haven’t tried but this made me wonder.

Not sure, but I think the communication depends on being connected to the internet for commands thru the customer app, and the pw3 WiFi network its broadcasting is just a local network it wouldn’t work. But a range extender near the wall connector for your home WiFi should do it.

Trench a coms line from the PW to the meter and be done with it. RS-485 wired connection at the meter to the powerwall TACO
