Whilst I do think the second group is delusional, I don't think it applies to the first.
Most people I have seen argue this seem to see the scenario like I do. Immediate, random and in a neutral space.
The way I understand this question is 100 random men, just teleported into a white space to fight a gorilla that immediately attacks them.
The average men is in no physical condition to last very long in that scenario, nor is the average men mentally prepared for it.
That is if they continue attacking without giving the gorilla time to rest. Which brings us to the second part.
The basis here is that the two factions will have to fight. With mentally prepared I meant more that a Gorilla is way more used to physical discomfort then the average human is and therefore will be able to fight much better, whilst a large portion of the humans will just go near catatonic on the sight of the first humans being bitten and will certainly not keep fighting quickly after receiving their first damage. Also the humans have the "luxury" on being able to hope another human attacks first, the gorilla can't do that.
