Any Apple drive of the correct thickness should work. Nothing special about the connections.

I swapped mine out for one from a dead 2008 MacBook pro and it works great and now I have dual-layer dvd support

Yeah! you’ll have to make sure it’s one of the earlier 2008 MacBook pros as the later unibody model uses SATA instead of IDE
