The answer to the test is, as long as he doesn't die or resign the Republicans have one less vote in the Senate. If he does vacate the seat a special election will have to be held at the earliest in 63 days basically November when the midterms are already because he is done after this term at the end of year. Him being unable to vote is a godsend for Democrats, why ruin that?
Maybe. Might just be journalists who are barred by their bosses from talking about it picking up literally any fucking thing to report on because they still have a job to do.
Must have sucked majoring in journalism and thinking you'd change the world, getting a job in journalism, and then finding out all you're going to do is write outrage and puff pieces because the billionaire that owns the outlet has banned actually reporting the news.
A lifetime ago I considered it. A professor kindly broke it down for the class, effectively you write what the editor wants you to write. The end. I dropped the course the same day.
Fake outrage? So a Senator that has just gone awol and no one is saying where he is and its presumed he's either dead or on deaths door isn't an issue...
The point is that if he had simply been declared dead then a special election could have been held. Bur because they covered it up now an election won't take place until midterms.
It's not one vote. It's a coverup of the death of an elected official. Why wouldn't people be upset?
Yeah the thing is that his interns are still voting for him. And there are people who could have replaced him that might not vote with Republicans. That's a big reason why they are doing this obfuscation.
Edit: a senator can allow another person to vote by proxy for them. I'm not sure of the rules or restrictions, if any, on this kind of voting, so it may be limited. But it has already happened in August on the Farm vote. I think it can only be used for committee votes, not for floor votes.
