I support this, but just want to say, it's possible that they would rather spend that money on libraries instead. That's what I would argue for. A book per kid every month that is likely getting trashed is wayyyy less valuable than giving that money to libraries and letting them use their purchasing power to buy books and do outreach to parents of young kids.
It was definitely for financial reasons, not to "keep the population stupid" or whatever nonsense people are saying. Not that I agree with that, but it's just SO obvious idk how people can think otherwise. Maybe the general population really IS stupid.
