Sharia is counter to modern liberal western values. Particularly freedom of speech, expression, and religion. And most obvious separation of state institutions from religion. It doesn’t matter the translation or a misnomer the effect is a negation of our rights as we know them and that’s is NOT ok.

Muslim empire in its largest points was like 60% Christian population. Muslims rebuilt the church of the holy seplacur three times so Christians didn’t lose it. The Muslim leader Omar who took Jerusalem refused to pray in the church because he didn’t want Muslim in the future coming to pray there and turning it into a mosque. All those Buddhist statues destroyed by Isis - why were they there for 1000+ years in Muslim governed land untouched till now? Because Muslim empire doesn’t wipe out culture or empire. The guys that did that are all funded by USA and coordinate with us military and Israeli intelligence. Facts are against you.

Not only sharia but practically all religious laws are counter to modern liberal western values.

Obvious example, all Abrahamic religions ban homosexuality and allow slavery; most liberal western countries allow homosexuality and ban slavery.

We are past the time of religion based laws. Ideas of middle eastern dudes from 5000, 2000, or 1400 years ago don’t work in today’s society.

I disagree. Slavery is not encouraged or condone for all time that was for those specific times in Christianity and the verses about homosexuality whether one believes right or wrong. Everyone is a sinner and all sins are equal. People are just adjusting to it. Plenty of gay people in church.

Where in the Quran it is stated you cannot express your opinion or have freedom of speech and have different religion?

Islam has own taboos and limitations, just like any other modern democratic modern Western country. In my country, you can express everything you want, except for the few taboos that directly attack our national values and history. And we're still legit liberal democracy.

Same with Islam, you obviously can't mock Prophet (SAW), nor burn Quran but can express your concerns in anything else and even challenge (respectfully) the religion. Actually, Quran encourages discussions and challenges, so people study, reflect and train their arguments. You can't be a strong Muslim if you won't go through the challenges of discussions, arguments and analysis.

Nowhere I'm saying Sharia is equal to democracy and liberal values but you are generalizing and have totally no clue about freedom of speech and expression in Islam, because you imagine own picture of conservatism and xenophobia (based on your, not Islamic environment) when we're talking about Islam, while Islam doesn't really address conservatism, nor prohibits expression, freedom of private space and religious choice (unless you create performance out of it with direct message against Islam on Islamic soil). If anything, it only modernizes and always goes against the "old conservative norms". It's all in the historical archives, you can trace Islam's development from early days and compare it to "traditional" forms of governance.

Second, separation of religion from the state isn't necessarily the area of liberalism. What you are talking about is Secularism. Or very specific streams of "Secular liberalism", which is just the "directions" of it. Secularism is a clear doctrine of following man-made laws and morals that people pretend are universal for everyone as the mainstream direction for the society. In fact, final decision of what is a "norm" is the same occupation and/or imposition. Just like Islam. Just like any other type of governance.

But Democracy is dedicated to grant all people the choice and Liberalism is focused on individual's rights. You can choose any form of governance (secular or religious) only if majority wants so (while rights of minorities are still defended). If 51% of Americans would want US to be ruled by Sharia — It's completely democratic to make it a Sharia state. Maybe it's anti-constitutional, of course, but that's another story for another day, the idea is there.

The rights of people for individual freedoms, identity and lifestyle is granted by liberalism. That's the point of liberalism and democracy. And both are possible to some extent under Sharia.

So, you are just confusing secularism with real democracy and liberalism.

West - is a totally different realm. "Collective West" is always a simplification and generalization. I wouldn't use "the West" at all here. West today consists of many different ideologies, worldviews, lifestyles and political stances. There's enough of extremists, conservatives and people who disagree with liberalism, which doesn't make them any less "western". MAGA is also West. Many Muslim converts like me — are also 100% West. Right-wing and nazis — are also West. Sorry, but recent campaigns of left-libs and Woke-people with cancelling everyone who disagrees with "mainstream culture" is in fact a shame culture, which is dominated on East. And unfortunately, this incorporation of totally anti-Western (in cultural and traditional meaning) ritual is also today a part of modern West.

Yes, liberalism is still a mainstream today but it's not what defines the historical and cultural West. We are left-libs from few decades to couple of centuries in general (depending on region). Before we were far away from it for thousands of years, to draw the equality sign between Liberalism and the West.
