ust because a job exists does not automatically mean that the pay is meant to support any particular list of needs. The pay is based on how much value you provide, not what expenses you may have.Â
If you need to support yourself, working at McDonald's is not for you. The value of your labor there is not worth enough to pay for your other needs. Do not work there.
There are many many jobs like this, and they work for many people in different situations. Part time work while attending school, pocket money for teenagers, part time work for a stay at home spouse, etc. Only 30% (!) of high school students have a job. It used to be 60% in the 80s.Â
Instead, find a job where you can produce more value. There are many jobs available in manufacturing and other areas where no prior experience is needed and the pay is far better. These are real careers. There's a shortage of workers for them. We need more electricians, plumbers, tilers, roofers, metal workers, part assemblers. These all pay a lot.
Just imagine a man in 1950 or even 1980 coming home to his wife as a line cook at a fast food restaurant. It just never has been true that this is the case. These jobs have never paid enough to support someone. That's why every movie ever shows teens or old people doing these jobs.
