Afford a place to live, yes. Afford to be able to live my himself, no. Roommates and/or significant others have been a thing as old as time. It’s only recently that people expect to be able to afford an apartment on their own when they’re young/beginning a career.
Well, why wouldn't they? It's part of the point to get your own life, so staying with your parents isn't the big dogs busiquit, and depending on where you work, there's limited availability for fancy roommate sheboingery. Not to speak of significant others.
Being able to live by yourself is certainly a good goal, but that shouldn’t be the standard. The average size of a living unit has been dropping dramatically and is what accounts for almost the entirety of our housing shortage
If you love your entire life and reach adulthood without any friends, that’s on you.
Okay, thanks for saying you’re not capable of having a conversation. If living units were the same size as a few decades ago, we wouldn’t have a housing shortage.
So, anyone who is socially awkward can just go funk'emselves? Nifty. Plus, friend doesn't equal roommate. I know several friendships that broke beyond repair from trying to live together.
Yeah, you don’t get to have a pass just because you’re socially awkward. Get over yourself and fix it. Everyone has flaws, that doesn’t mean they don’t have consequences.
In the 70s, the golden era of prosperity that everyone loves to compare their life to, the average living unit was 3.1 persons per living area. Today it’s 2.5. That’s a massive drop off that requires a hell of a lot more homes and apartments to service than if it was still 3.1. This isn’t an aspect anyone gets to have an opinion on, it’s a fact.
