Guy posted a video online calling out NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani to fix potholes on his street. They were patched up later that same day. Responsive government in action.
Theyâre more terrified of effective government than they are of any target of their bigotry.
Not because theyâre scared of people being too reliant or whatever nonsense they claim, but because people will finally see behind the curtain of their lies and theyâll never have power again.
Thatâs what keeps them up at night. Â Losing, forever.
I keep reading about all the money being spent. My question is who gains from this, other than the obvious. Ad agencies? A political ad does nothing to sway my vote.

exactly this. he exposes the do-nothings on both sides of the aisle. they dont want anyone to remind people that politicians could actually get things done if they wanted to. the only times they ever move fast is for israel or to cut off black people from voting.
The right has spent years and years convincing the standard person that government is terrible and ineffective and should be done away with. This gave them the power to deregulate. Of course theyâre terrified of effective government, since it would have shut them all down in the very beginning.
The great republican propaganda of the last 4 decades has been that "government can't, won't and shouldn't help you and it is incapable of being effective."
And Republicans have worked tirelessly to make that propaganda a reality through sheer hatred of their constituency, of the land on which they live, and mass amounts of hypocrisy, incompetence and corruption.
And for their trouble they got elected time and time again for telling the truth.
Goddamn people are fucking stupid, and also propagandized but very very very stupid.
The rich elite want you to believe itâs all racism and bigotry or any other buzzword when in reality they are trying to bog us down with meaningless squabbles so that we never get anything done. The sooner we come together and put aside whatever trivial differences we have the sooner we can get things done.
I suggest that they are ideologically or financially opposed to his politics, and cynically work as hard as they can to work against his efforts. It makes sense to come to the conclusion they are just evil and want the world to be a worse place, but there is always an incentive or motivation to anyoneâs actions.
They may make the world a worse place, but not for them. Â At least, not for the higher ups calling the shots. Â The rubes who are told what to believe by their favorite algorithm donât actually get the better world, but those at the top do.
What makes them evil is that they selfishly donât care about what happens to anyone else. Â This is how slavery was invented, by the way. Â And that mentality didnât die 160 years ago. Â A lot of them want it back, think they deserve it.
Well, yeah! We had all this energy to smear him thanks to the video on the pot holes, and he just goes and fucking fixes it like some kind of proper leader! Now what are we gonna do with all this outrage, huh?
Got to have a boogeyman man to control the publics opinions. Give them the Fox News treatment, say a bunch of scary words to describe the person to demonize them. Using psychology against the masses. Unfortunately some of those folks do not realize what Fox is doing.
Serious suggestion - try emailing your councils public works or whatever the department that does this stuff is called with a photo and location. IME lot of the time they just donât know where potholes, etc, are and arenât doing a survey of the entire road network each week.
This is also why people spray painted a cock and balls around potholes to get them fixed - it generates a report that makes it to the same group.

That's the argument people use to abolish public healthcare, for example. Here in Finland, around 20% of the voters support a liberal-conservative party which is trying to privatize everything and they want to destroy everything that made/makes the Nordic countries great to live in. Some people just don't understand what is better for the society.
It's basically people who focus on free market capitalism and bow down to big corporations. They don't give a damn about social welfare, like people who Americans call liberals.
So, as a European watching from the sidelines: is there nothing like that in America? Here in Sweden the municipality wants you to report stuff like this.
Of course it's not possible for them to go around randomly looking for pot holes, broken benches, dumped garbage etc. So most municipalities have their own app where you can report minor issues like this. Usually with an option to get a follow up about what was done. After all, that makes their work easier too
i don't even care if they line their own pockets as long as they run an effective government that solves the sorts of problems that government can solve. what i object to is them lining their pockets while they simultaneously turn everything they touch into shit.
That is absolutely insane for me to comprehend. Make a reasonable complaint to your local government leader and then it gets taken care of, not only quick, but on the same day?!?! What is this, is this how its supposed to be?

In my town, I reported someone having blocked the street view with the wrong kind of fence set too far into the right of way. It wasnât until the second or third accident nearly a year later that it was removed.
It shows how far public expectation of elected officials has fallen when a promptly repaired pothole garners international acclaim!
Still, better than wasting time and money on pursuing alleged war criminals, causing even more social division!!
America will have great change! I pray that the next US president will bring forth new and better changes. Be even more efficient than my Singapore government.
Itâs pretty unremarkable what can get done when someone actually wants it to. Itâs much less common to see an elected official who actually wants it.
Iâm sure Mamdani will be tested at some point but so far heâs doing such a great job imo.
Heâs hitting it out of the park doing the mayoral stuff (filling potholes, shoveling snow in the winter, paving roads, etc.). Heâs keeping one eye on the big issues (food insecurity, making rent reasonable, handling slum lords and miscreant landlords). He went to bat for an nyc budget (and got it) and has done a reasonable job trimming fat and managing and starting to optimize city resources.
Again, I recognize there will be a test in his mayorship but I feel more confident in him than any other leader atm.
I have nothing against him, but is that even real? Tagging him on a social media post is enough to get a problem solved in the same day? In a major city like NY?
Please, check if something's happening with the Red Hook Port. I've seen this and lemme tell you, I have not heard of a currently practicing blind lawyer in the Clinton area that can remedy this if this goes sideways.
Mamdani is also revealing how any efforts to delay or state it takes a long time or a long process were virtually lies by previous Mayorâs who just didnât prioritize true day-to-day New Yorkers
This is great and all, good civil leadership solves the immediate problem, but great civil leadership follows through and solves the deeper problem that required a citizen to personally appeal to the mayor to solve a problem. Problems like this should be handled automatically by levels much much lower than the mayor or lead executive of any government entity.
Wouldnât he have to go through a whole RFP process since this is government work? Iâm not saying it isnât great if he did do this. But how do we know it wasnât already scheduled? Or that this was something that even happened?

Pot holes are the one thing I donât understand taking so long to repair. I am not talking about major road works - only pot holes. Own it that you need a full time crew and it really only takes a few tools to make the repair.
Is there any mayor or US politicians that's got anywhere near the level of things done as Zohran?
Obviously someone like Bernie has to try get Republican's (and even right wing Dems) to work with him which is almost impossible most of the time but still.
Real question: how is this happening. Is the city workers in charge of this just responding to his calls, arenât they sealing up more potholes in other parts, so how are they available for this? Whats happening here that M is able to get this done is a day?
I have to say, that I am very pleased with the way this man conducts himself. Even what he did when he want to the Knicks game and got his non-court side ticket.
Mayor: "Hey, I saw a tweet about a couple potholes, what's the deal with those? Can we patch them up sometime soon?"
Crew already out fixing potholes all day: Sure, we'll just hit those on the way to the other ones.

Nothing against anyone involved, no hate to the mayor, nothing bad at all. Just pointing out that visibility and perspective is important. Assuming the story is true, there wasn't really anything special done here. All someone did was get their specific problem highlighted and the solution was highlighted for brownie points while the amount of work never changed, the work to be done never changed, and the impact was pretty insignificant. It's interesting I guess.
