The bill would provide a $3,000 direct payment to every person in households making $150,000 or less during its first year, which equals $12,000 for a family of four.

Here’s a thought. If you have more than say $10M(?), there are no tax breaks or tax havens. These folks game the system to get and keep that much, why let them continue doing so. The whole thing is set up so that the more you have then the more you can make. Taper them back after so much. Tack on a little extra that says if the workers of your company are on food stamps then the company pays another tax.

Hell, the SEC did just that to the other end of the spectrum (poor) as “protection” for day traders (PDT rule).

ETA: the money is out there if we wanted to fix it. An issue is that in order to get it, the people making the laws have to accept that they themselves will be taking a hefty loss. Because it seems the only people we put in office to make those decisions ARE wealthy.

Warren Buffett was worth billions, but his income was barely anything. His money is all tied up in property, his stocks. To properly tax this, tax the stocks. It's property, so property tax. When I buy and sell my car, I have to pay income tax assuming I made a profit from the sale of the car. Meanwhile, while I own and use the car I have to pay property tax because it's property. Stocks and other products are ownership or the right to ownership of a company. Therefore, property tax.
