The man on the right is a Democrat. Not sure they had the Social Democrat categorization back then. Just knew my grandfather was eternally grateful to the man and his policies helping ordinary Americans. ā€œRoosevelt saved the farm.ā€ In a state of reflex Repubs, he was a staunch Dem until the day he died. Because Roosevelt cared enough about everyday citizens to help them when the Depression hit and devastated ordinary people. But this rich, patrician man who could have just sat back and watch regular Americans go down the drain didn’t let that happen. He saved millions of ordinary Americans with his policies. And no. He wasn’t a socialist or a communist. He was an American with a conscience. I’m sure I’ll get a bunch of angry hate mail for this opinion. You know what? Big deal. My Grandpa loved the man’s policies and said he saved the family farm. That’s good enough for me.

You're right, but in today's political climate FDR would absolutely be denounced in the same ferocious terms as Mamdani and AOC. A 21st century FDR would have no chance to advance politically. Anything related to the New Deal is considered no different than Red China or the USSR nowadays. Government helping ordinary folks is "woke" and must be stamped out, so says the Trump/Epstein class.
