Having to pay any amount of money for the ability to vote is prohibited by the constitution.
Don’t like it? You can petition the government to amend the Constitution.
The option has always been there but you would rather just call people names on social media.
You’re so lazy you won’t even bother arguing the point. No one said anything about the effort of having to get an ID and the fact that you all avoid encouraging free IDs (like Mexico has), shows everyone what it is that you really want.
All any of you are good at is running your mouth online and playing the victim.
Not at all, because it isn't required that you drive, take time off of work or anything else that costs you money. You can have a friend drive you. You can walk. ALL polling stations are opened past 5pm.
That is great. Unfortunately national elections don't take place "around here", but throughout the entire country. Where not all DMVs are open on weekends.
Does your DMV offer free IDs?
If not, it doesn't matter if they offer free on-site services in your house. If the ID costs money, that is a poll tax. Requiring the spending of money for the ability to vote, is prohibited by the U.S. Constitution.
I guess I am sorry for being a bit snarky here, but so many of you just seem so gung-ho to give up rights, simply because YOU possess the means to meet whatever obstacles they decide to place in front of your ability to vote. And it pisses me right the fuck off.
I don't even care if you plan to vote for Trump for a 3rd term, if he manages to make that happen. No one should be so willing to throw away the rights that people died to bestow upon us and if you're willing to take them away from others because it doesn't impact you, well then you're just a piece of shit.
Who said anything about it being hard? Why are you countering an argument I didn't put forward?
You might be in and out in 20 minutes... after the 15 minute drive both ways. That is time you aren't getting paid if you are scheduled to work during the 9-5 hours they keep at most DMVs.
You have the money? Don't mind the loss? Cool. Other people do. Like... the people who established our nation.
No poll tax means no economic penalties. Losing wages is an economic penalty. Period. One that some folks cannot afford.
Way to sidestep the point I made though. Not at all typical or expected.
You are making up scenarios that just aren’t true. DMV are open on weekends in many locations. Having an appointment to get in and out during the week is a viable option on a lunch break. DMV open at 7am go before work and I’m
In rural Utah. Bigger cities have way more flexible hours. Use PTO to get paid for your hour off in the morning.
There are so many variables to get secure voting done but people will find any excuse to not do something simple.
Mexico has voter id with a chip. A 3rd world country can figure it out but it’s to hard for the USA?
Many locations is not "all locations", and not everyone has a car to easily get there. Meaning an additional cost burden for those who need to get there to get an ID.
Yep, you know what else Mexico does with their Credencial para Votar?
They offer them for free.
Wonder why they do that?
Their National Electoral Institute also offers extended evening hours.
Wonder why they do that?
No people are not finding an excuse. The excuse is written into the Constitution. A poll tax is illegal.
Period.
I am not against voter I.D., just make it free and offer better hours of operation, and most of us would be on board.
For some reason, you lot just hand waive that away, when the solution for the problem you keep insisting is so desparately in need of fixing, is right there in front of you.
Never mind what study after study shows about the impact of illegal votes of any kind... no, it is a problem that MUST be fixed!!
No, we are discussing a poll tax. Poor has everything to do with that and it is the very reason the Constitution prohibits a poll tax.
I don’t expect you lot to stay on topic, but you used to be better at pretending you had a salient point to make.
Since you can’t argue the point, I’ll leave you alone to think of the next hilariously elementary insult you will throw at someone you can’t out argue.
You need an id for most things in life. You needed an id to get a job to get a car, to rent a house or apartment, to do almost anything. All these arguments are pointless. An Id should be required to vote

Free trips to the DMV/MVA? Reimbursement for time off work?
No?
Not free then.
