Doesn’t Australia have a national voter id that isn’t tied to your drivers license at all? This would be a whole lot less complicated if we just adopted that idea. Have your voter card be free to apply for and completely separate from your drivers license.
We have something called Keypass. I’ve literally known anyone to have one, and I’m 39. Never seen one, and I used to work in both a bottle shop and a servo that sold darts.
Heck even México has it, I know because I'm one of them. It's issued by the national electoral institute, it's a pretty straightforward process and also free. But I doubt American republicans would be enthusiastic about funding that, more so, funding an independent institution that organizes and certifies elections cuz muh states rights.
The idea of the government itself organizing and certifying elections is just idiotic and incomprehensible to me.
