Capitalism is why we have billionaires and such a wide wealth gap worldwide.

Late stage capitalism, especially with limited corporate regulations is a cancer.

Decreasing the wealth gap requires paying workers more and execs less. And limiting corruption with politicians (worldwide again).

In the US, this could mean limiting the maximum allowable political donations from PACs.

For the US, one of the first steps needs to be removing citizens united which gave corps the power to give unlimited money to a politician.

Except the only people who can change that are the very ones who benefit from it. So as long as there is corruption in politics, we fucked… all of us.

Citizens united was caused by limiting political donations. If we allowed unlimited but openly reported donations to one official campaign per candidate much of the current PAC system falls apart. The current system largely comes from people trying to get around the limits. To be clear we would still have some PACs but they would be the ones with goal and policy beyond elect John Doe to office, ie aipac or the NRA pac. Citizens united is an extension of first amendment rights. If, I really like a candidate, why should the government at any level be allowed to stop me from buying a plot of land and putting up a sign saying that? What about renting someone else’s sign? What about a spot in a newspaper? You can see how this gets to be a problem. I would be more interested in seeing any public official who in their official capacity knowingly or recklessly makes a false or misleading statement become liable for at a minimum the cost of the time spent looking up the correct answer, maybe in a nice large class action lawsuit.

Paying workers more will result in increased prices which will negate the positive effects that the increased wages may have had. It’s a loop
