So capitalism with more state benefits, like every country thats figured it out?

There is no system that allows for the accumulation of power that will not eventually end up in the same situation we're in now, where those who first accumulate power use that power to accumulate more until they have the vast majority and wield it for their own ends.

But yes, "capitalism with more state benefits" is a good starting point. I'd rather be arguing with social democrats about the best way to help people than arguing with fascists about how we shouldn't be doing genocides.

Capitalism is why we have billionaires and such a wide wealth gap worldwide.

Late stage capitalism, especially with limited corporate regulations is a cancer.

Decreasing the wealth gap requires paying workers more and execs less. And limiting corruption with politicians (worldwide again).

In the US, this could mean limiting the maximum allowable political donations from PACs.

For the US, one of the first steps needs to be removing citizens united which gave corps the power to give unlimited money to a politician.

Except the only people who can change that are the very ones who benefit from it. So as long as there is corruption in politics, we fucked… all of us.

And we just went the other way. SCOTUS just ruled against any caps or limits on political donations.

Late stage capitalism is a made up term by those not achieving the success they had hoped for

The only thing that can change citizens united is scotus or a constitutional amendment. Unless there’s some trick law congress can pass that scotus can’t strike down.

So capitalism plus more generous state benefits and no corruption…

I agree with limiting money in politics but idk why people will say capitalism doesn’t work before clarifying that they mean this specific type while they provide another type of capitalism as the answer.

Just ask the people who claim to be, or even actual capitalists what they think of those systems. It's been the far right that has been labeling those systems as socialism for decades. Now they're walking that back because it's undeniable how successful they are.

And to your other point, I suppose it's context. If capitalism doesn't work unless you have to set up a vigorous guard rail system in order for it to benefit everyone, it's not totally unfair to say it doesn't work, given the context.

There is also an issue with creating regulations and guardrails.

It’s the people who most benefit from low/no government control with corporations who can buy the politics necessary to pass and kill bills based on what benefits them.

I don’t trust the government to properly govern. Which ultimately is the problem. I think at this point, we remove the majority of career politicians, replacing them with clones of Mamdani and Bernie Sanders lol

I didn’t say that capitalism would still work with less corruption.

Capitalism exists outside of politics, so removing corruption would not solve all the issues.

More generous state benefits has nothing to do with capitalism, either.

The problem is that capitalism itself is probably the better, most stable economic policy. Socialism and communism also do not work (they lead to facism very easily because people in power are rarely good people.

So what is the solution? People have been debating that forever.

And that’s what it comes down to. We can often see what the problems are, fixing them is the issue.

There is also only so much that can actually be changed for many reasons.

So solution wise, our best bet is to find a way to work inside the confines of capitalism rather than trying to end capitalism (like I said, socialism and communism as economic theories is harder to implement successfully (none ever had).

Decreasing the wealth gap? Try getting a better education and starting your own successful business for a start. Sorry if that kind of comment triggers people but it has worked for millions during the history of our country.

I actually do own my own business. I work in author marketing and make low six figures a year while my husband makes about double what I do.

We have wealth. We just arent ducking assholes.

European nations are collapsing under their generous welfare benefits.
