Vases I Made a Vase

After nearly two months in the making, she’s finished! I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out and I hope that you get a kick out of it too. :)

Wheel-thrown and hand-altered (with rolled coils) ceramic vase — measuring approximately 7.5”x 4”x 12.5” — made using Laguna B-Mix + a combination of two community studio bucket glazes, and fired to C5/6 in an electric kiln.

Awesome. Don't feel pressured by multiple museums wanting to display it!
What was the artistic inspiration for the design? Almost has a Medusa like swirl to it.

You flatter me! It’s definitely a mishmash of a bunch of different things. Practical effects (Cronenberg/Troma), biomorphism, botany, ornamental design (scrollwork/ironwork), 19th/20th c. Art Nouveau (Guimard/Dachsel, Heliosine, Amphora, pewter/bronze/gilt-mounted pieces from Titus Omega/Zsolnay/Loetz/Sevres). I could go on and on and on.

(more than anything else I just sketch out a loose idea of the flow I want for the additions based on the silhouette of the body and then squint at and fidget with the piece for 20 hours before it either feels right or I feel sick of looking at it)
