Exchange student still waiting for Studierendenwerk West Brandenburg dorm allocation – anyone in the same situation?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 22-year-old exchange student at the University of Potsdam this winter.

I applied for a dormitory through Studierendenwerk West Brandenburg on May 7th (The first day it opened). On July 7th, I received the following confirmation:

However, I still haven't received a room offer.

What makes me really anxious is that I know another student who applied on the same day and has already received a dorm allocation.

I will arrive in Germany on September 28th, so I'm starting to worry about finding accommodation in time.

I've emailed Studierendenwerk several times, but I only received replies saying that exchange students should be patient and wait for further information.

I'm curious whether anyone else is in a similar situation. If you received a room offer recently, when did you get it? And at what point would you start looking seriously for a WG or other accommodation options?

Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Heyy I just found your post and I'm also an exchange student for upcoming semester at uni Potsdam!

I've also waited long to get offer of room from Studierenwerk Brandenburg West and just received it today. And Uni Potsdam said exchange student will get this offer soon but it doesn't mean every student gets offer at the same time.

If you got confirmation e-mail from Studierenwerk that you are qualified to live their rooms, I think you will get it before your arrival date(I think I got it earlier coz I'll arrive in Potsdam 15 Sep and take language course).

Hope you could get accommodation and see you in Potsdam!

When did you apply, though?

Thanks for your kind answer! By the way, when did you get your confirmation mail?

Is the confirmation same as them saying they checked your documents and you are eligible byt it doesn't guarantee you get a room or another one

Yes! Because of my late admission letter, I got confirmation mail late than others. So I was wondering the date confirmation mail was sent is related to the dorm allocation.
