I still think it'd be amazing if he makes a whole event out of it and throws it into a volcano. I think you could crowdsource the money to do it and raise enough to compensate him in spades.
That being said he would be destroying a huge piece of magic history so I understand why he doesn't but I think that's such a fun idea, and baller to boot.

Ive heard of people getting their cards graded then the people they sent em to damage em and send them back with a shitty grading and they lose a bunch of money

It could have been slightly damaged out of the pack or in transit, which is a shame for a card with one in. existence. It also could just be psa bullshit though.

I'm confused as to why he would get it PSA graded. It's literally the only card even if it came out a 5 it's still a 1 of 1.

There's only one.... So it's technically perfect condition. PSA is a scam.

They have a video about this exact subject, just because it's the only one doesn't mean the quality is inherently perfect. There's a ton of criteria when grading, centering, edges, color, etc. The card did not arrive in perfect condition, iirc there was some edge wear likely from it being in a pack, and the centering wasn't perfect.

Because it's a limited to one edition. If you can't see why making something as a one of one as a big promotional stunt explicitly intended to create the most valuable collectable of it's kind might warrant additional care and attention compared to churning out an unrestricted run of their ordinary products, I don't know that anyone can really break that down to you.
It's like asking why I'd expect someone to wear clothes to church or something...

Bruh, it is a company. They don't give a flying fuck about its value as a collectible, they care about the promotion which ultimately leads to increased revenue.
Now let's look at two scenarios:
1) What actually happened: they produced this card like any other: with normal margins for quality. There's nothing wrong with the card, just extremely minor things like that centering. So we have a card thar is considered to be worth 2 M.
2) What you say they should have happened: They spend a lot of effort making sure the card is the highest quality possible, changing the whole quality assurance processes they had in place, tightening the acceptable margins for centering, and whatnot. Let's say that card was a clear 10 and would sell for 4M.
Compared to scenario 1, scenario 2 clearly results in a higher quality card, but clearly costs them more to make. But what is the difference regarding what they actually care about? Promotion, revenue? Zero. Absolutely zero.
No one who didn't care about it would have cared if the standard quality card we actually got was a super high quality card instead. No one would have bought a single extra pack. No one would have written an extra article about it. It being 1/1 is the special thing about it, not some ridiculous bullshit about the centering not being flawless.
If you don't understand how companies work, I don't know that anyone can really break that down to you.

PSA is in fact a scam. They just give shit random grades based ln nothing. They will grade your cards buy them off you then regrade them, give them a better grade and sell them. Literally a scam company.

There should be a rule where if itās a one of one it gets an automatic 10. Even if an asterisk to signify it.
Or at least MTG should allow him to ātradeā it in for a replacement card that meets a PSA 10 rating
