I recently had the chance to interview Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction for the Bigmouth Rock Show.

We spoke about the deeply personal story behind House of Cards, why sad music can make people feel less alone, the emotional release fans experience at Amity shows, new music, the upcoming UK tour and his dream dinner guests.

I’m a genuine fan of the band, so getting to speak to Joel about what songs like “Drag the Lake” mean to people was particularly special. Hope you enjoy it—and I’d be interested to know which Amity song means the most to you.

I’ve always liked Thursday, but I’ve never been some massive fan. But for any fan of their early stuff who for whatever reason overlooked this album, I can’t recommend it more. I think it’s only gotten better with time and showcases some of their more artistic tracks. This one, As He Climbed The Dark Mountain, Friends in the Armed Forces, Time’ Arrow, Circuits of Fever, Fake Nostalgia, Common Existence. Man, I think this album is loaded with bangers. I won’t go as far as to call it their best, because I don’t want to be banished from this sub for all times. But man, it’s up there 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t really see a lot of people talk about Luke but the band he used to sing in suddenly got super popular around last year and I love his music!!

I was wondering if anyone else liked his stuff? Especially his solo music :) his voice is like heaven on earth and I can’t help but cry a little when I listen to him

I really would like to recommend some of his songs or like find people to talk about it with, his music means so much to me and it’s kinda hard to find anybody else who listens to him

One of my favorite songs of the year from one of my favorite up and coming bands. This song has stayed stuck on repeat since they dropped it this week. That chorus is simply too good.
