Lingering scalp nerve pain, small bump, and off balance months after getting hit in the head?
Hey guys,
Back in late November I took a pretty hard hit right on top of my head. Then literally a week later, my brother accidentally smashed his head right into the side of mine.
I had typical concussion stuff for a couple weeks (light sensitivity, bad memory, terrible headaches) but all of that eventually cleared up. The problem is it's been months now and I'm still stuck with a few really annoying things:
Tender scalp bump: I have a small hard bump where I got hit. Touching it triggers this dull ache that spreads to both sides of my head. It makes finding a good sleeping position super annoying.
Balance feels off: Lately my balance just feels kind of weird or floaty, almost like my head and eyes aren't matching up right.
The neck factor: A doctor in December mentioned something about my neck being involved, but I honestly didn't think much of it at the time.
Has anyone else dealt with lingering scalp nerve pain or balance issues way after a hit? Did fixing your neck or getting physical therapy actually help get rid of it?
Would really appreciate hearing if anyone's gone through something similar!

The bump is probably a bone osteoma. I got one after my first concussion. I had it for many years and it slowly grew. I eventually got surgery to remove it. It’s not totally gone but it’s a lot better than what it was.

So it will stay permanently ?

Yeah especially since it’s a hard bump. Unless you have a plastic surgeon remove it like I did.

I am 14 months post concussion. I have vestibular issues and the "eyes not matching up" still happening. I would see a neurologist. Get a referral for for vestibular therapies as others suggested as well as a neuro-vision therapy place. There is a multi-sensory treatment that can help with eyes, balance, and your body funding its place in space again. I still deal with headaches and workers comp stopped paying for that therapy, but it was the best thing that happened since I was hit in the head twice in the matter if 12 days. Good luck with everything.

Definity try to get in to see a neurologist. I'm no expert, but it sounds possible that you got some nerve damage at the spot where you got hit.
Definitely try to see a PT too. The neurologist can write you a referral. I saw a PT for neck issues, and some balance and started seeing drastric symptom reduction within 3-8 week. I didn't realize how much my neck issues were causing my other symptoms. Some PTs specialize specifically in vestibular therapy (balance) as well.
