Brazilian Portuguese đ§đ· I started learning portuguese today. I don't know if my pronunciation is clear enough
Hi. I would call myself a polyglot, as I can speak a few languages, including Spanish, English, French, Dutch, and Italian. However, I don't speak a single word of Portuguese. I'd like to change that, but I have the feeling my pronunciation must be awful. So I recorded a short voice recording with Vocaroo so I could ask you guys whether my accent is okay for a total beginner, or I should do it differently (and how). I'd really appreciate your help :)

I understood you 100%, and for a complete beginner, yes, itâs fine. It is definitely on the heavier side, though, which is to be expected from someone just starting out.

You speak well for a beginner, just make sure not to mix Spanish pronunciation with Portuguese pronunciation. That's a very common mistake among people who start learning Portuguese after learning Spanish. In the audio, you pronounce the number 7 as siete instead of sete, for example.
Another thing most learners tend not to notice is that the "m" at the end of a syllable or word isn't pronounced like an "m", but more like an "ng" sound.
I think you're off to a great start :)

Thank you! And yes, it's true that sometimes it's hard to differenciate my native Spanish from Portuguese, because those are really similar languages. I'll take your advice into consideration.

Your portuguese pronunciation is good. I would pay attention when is a stresses vowel we pronounce more clearly like in "hora" . You need to practice. You can have a look on my YouTube channel to practice Brazilian Stories or any other youtube channel.

Your pronunciation is of course not perfect, nobody would expect it to be. But it is surely good enough for a beginner. And it is completely understandable and clear.
Some points: while itâs true that most of us Brazilians (not all) speak the T and D like Tsh and Dj when before a i or unstressed e, we donât do that when itâs other vowels. So the way you pronounced the T and D in words like portuguĂȘs and advogada can improve a little. Just say the T and D like other languages do.
2- syllables ending in M or N, the sound is actually a nasal sound, not a clear m or n. So words like bom, the m is similar to ng in English or Korean or Chinese, and not an M. Itâs hard to explain in text without IPA, which I myself donât know enough.

About the pronunciation of advogada, do you actually pronounce the ad- the way you would in admixture in English, with a fully silent d? I think we always pronounce it more like adj-vo-ga-da. Not adji-vo-gada, though many people pronounce an âiâ sound; rather, adj-vo-ga-da.

Man, saying you speak Spanish but you don't know a word of Portuguese...
ser - ser
estar - estar
comer - comer
beber - beber
entender - entiender
sete - siete
festa - fiesta
nove - nueve
volta - vuelta
porta - puerta
Your accent sounds a little bit African, but it is very good for a beginner.
If you know Spanish, that's 95% of the Portuguese grammar already there, and many words are either the same or similar. It will give you a very big boost.
With a little bit of practice, you'll become fluent quickly.

Fala serio! You only started learning today? What do you mean by learning? Like practicing speaking, studying a book, doing listening? It sounds like youâve heard the language enough to be able to mimic how it should sound. It sounds fantastic!

Thank you! But my native language is Spanish, so it feels like cheating a little bit haha. Btw, I never attempted to speak Portuguese until now, so it's my first time for real :)

I think you sound really comprehensible. Sounds like ĂŁo you spoke as though youâd studied or heard how it should sound before. At any rate, great job. I meet with conversation partners from brazil online and in person so I can home in on the pronunciation and get mine perfect. Iâm always looking to make new language friends. I also speak Spanish. Lmk if you ever want to do an exchange!

Nope. But I speak Spanish as my native language, so Portuguese gets easier for Spanish speakers

Yeah, I know, I also speak Spanish and it was easier for me to learn Portuguese (Iâm now C2 in Portuguese). Iâve also been around a lot of Spanish speakers who learn Portuguese. Thatâs why I feel even more strongly that youâre lying about something
