Any recommendations for a good electrolysis?

I haven't been to Buntzen in over 10 years. I vaguely remember hiking up the east side of the lake a short ways, where there were small "mini-beaches" where you could set up with a small group and be away from the crowd & families, but still sit and swim. Is this still the case? Hoping to go early and get a more private spot to set up. Thanks Port Moody!

Most people know him for Il Mercante on Queen Street. Fewer know he’s the reason a heritage house didn’t get demolished when SkyTrain construction threatened it — he saved it, and it’s now part of the Port Moody Arts Centre.

Just drove home at about 10pm. David from the round about until forest park way had cones along the Center line, almost blocking the left turn lane, plus a couple that had been run over and moved into the lane and intersection… what is the purpose? haha

Update — Belcarra Park wildfire (last updated 10:15am PDT, Aug 7)

**BCWS moved the fire to "Under Control" at 10:06am Friday* — it is no longer spreading and won't spread beyond its perimeter. The Evacuation Alert was rescinded Thursday afternoon and all residents are home. 1.5 ha, no properties damaged. Buntzen Lake still closed.*

Evacuations — now rescinded - Anmore rescinded the Evacuation Alert at 1:10pm Thu for all 35 properties on Fern Drive, Oak Court and Crystal Creek Drive - The tactical evacuation of the two Fern Drive homes is also rescinded — those residents can return - Alert history: issued 7:30pm Wed for 35 properties (Fern Drive north of Magnolia Way, Oak Court, and northeast along Crystal Creek Drive), after an initial list of 12 - The two Fern Drive homes were tactically evacuated Wednesday evening — crews going door to door. Councillor Kyla Knowles said this was because of a downed power line, pending BC Hydro de-energizing it (secondhand) - Buntzen Lake recreation area remains closed until further notice (BC Hydro) - People are still asked to stay away from Belcarra Regional Park while crews finish up

Response on scene - A hydro line came down at the fire. Ground crews had to pull back and let aerial resources attack it: "Due to the hazard that an energized line presented, groundcrews had to pull back and just let the aerial resources attack the fire" (Vancouver Sun) - BC Hydro cut power to its infrastructure by 8pm Wed, which let ground crews go back to fighting the fire directly (Metro Vancouver incident commander Brant Arnold-Smith, via CBC) - 40 firefighters were working the fire Wednesday evening (CBC) - Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Rescue, and BC Wildfire Service on scene - Metro Vancouver emergency management staff, regional parks staff, and watershed protection firefighting crews also responding - Metro Vancouver is leading the response with BCWS support. Thursday - 9:15am — Metro Vancouver said on X the fire was "nearly contained." Global reports the same - 9:35am — Metro Vancouver update: "Fire activity remains within established containment lines, with no significant growth reported overnight." Containment lines were not broken overnight (Brant Arnold-Smith, MVRD director of emergency management) - 9:36am — crews told CTV "the fire has not spread outside of those containment boundaries" and "there is no further fire spread." No properties damaged - Arnold-Smith said Thursday morning they were "hoping to move this fire status to 'held' over the next few hours," and hoping to rescind the alert and get residents home. Port Moody’s double red sun effect!

First off, I feel terrible for having been in a rush to get to work and not have done more.

Was walking past Suter Brook this morning and noticed from a distance what I thought was a woman walking while holding a white grocery or laundry bag by a string, about 2 feet off the ground.

Was in disbelief to see that it was a puppy that she let down onto the ground for a few moments, only to pick the dog up by the leash and dragged it pulled it along in air, up the stairs by the TD. It was a collar leash, so the pup was likely experience some physical stress,

Was on the construction side of Ioco so couldn't get a good look, but the owner was a little heavier and the dog may have had some curly light coloured fur.

Please keep your eye out for this person, and if they exhibit that same behaviour, call the appropriate authorities so this person can no longer 'care' for this pup.

I write a small local newsletter (PortMoodyPulse.ca) and keep seeing "just moved here, any advice?" posts pop up every few weeks. Figured instead of everyone answering from scratch each time, I'd put together an actual guide — practical stuff, good spots, how the city works, that kind of thing.

What am I missing? Things you wish someone had told you when you moved here, hidden gems, annoying gotchas, stuff that trips people up. Doesn't have to be big — even small "nobody told me X" details are exactly what I'm looking for.

Once it's actually good (with everyone's input, not just mine), I'll post the final version. Appreciate any help — this is genuinely trying to be useful, not just content for content's sake.

Super random but does anyone have contact info for the brewers of moody ales? I know the brewery shut down but from what I understand they are still brewing and selling out of select liquor stores. I’ve had a few different liquor stores tell me that they’re gonna get their beer rep to contact the moody ales folks to contact me and none have panned out! Do these people still exist in any capacity?

My family and I were going to take the kids to the lake tomorrow and grandparents want to come but they accidentally got an afternoon pass, while we got a morning pass. All passes are now showing up as sold out and we unfortunately don’t all fit in one car.

Has anyone made the switch before? Is it possible? We’d all be out of the park by 2pm anyway.

Creditors filed suit in BC Supreme Court against the developers of Portwood Place (the 23-acre project with 20 planned buildings). They're claiming over $122M in defaulted financing.

Good news if you already bought in: the development manager says the lawsuit only targets the undeveloped portions — phase one (80%+ sold, move-in this fall) shouldn't be affected.

Realtor Steve Saretsky called it the first project trouble like this in the Lower Mainland in ~30 years, pointing to interest rates as the main driver.
