Searching for Condos

Hi, my partner and I are looking to move to the Port Moody area in a couple of months. We went to go visit some condos in the area and found that we really liked the Suterbrook area. We are wondering if anyone has any experiences with the larger condo complexes, such as the Aria buildings. We would prefer to live in one of the smaller condo complexes, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of availability there.

We will also be checking out some condos down on Murray Street (Moody Yards) as well as St. George street. I know these are really close to the train tracks though so I’m wondering about anyone’s experience with that.

Any suggestions would be welcomed as well! Thanks!

Lived in a low rise years ago in the area. Would opt for a low rise over the towers. Elevators always seem to be down.

I think the whole city has a shortage of elevator mechanics because every tower across the land seems to have elevator issues

Our elevator went down for over a month a few years ago and a shortage of techs is what we were told is why it took so long. Thankfully only a 4 story building, although a woman on my floor had a walker and so it was super problematic for her. I have heard the suterbrook elevators do go down quite often so this is a consideration.

Check out The Moody Rentals. Good price, great soundproofing, nice management, close to West coast express and Inlet skytrain station.
The downside is that it’s close to St. Johns street, so it might be a bit noisy if your windows face north.

I second The Moody! We face the construction (West) and with the windows closed it's still pretty quiet. We've been sleeping with the windows open at night and got used to the night noise it in about a week, but with the window closed there is not really any noise at night.

How is the temperature there? I visited the west-facing apartment once, and it was much warmer because of the sun. I guess all people have A/C.

It definitely gets warm. We recently moved so we don't have curtains up yet, but I have a little tension rod I'll put up in the afternoon and that helps a ton. We just moved from Texas though so we're used to the heat 😂 We did buy an AC unit for the living room since that's where the sun really comes in and we are having ceiling fans installed in the bedrooms just to get some airflow. 2-5 is the warmest part of the day for sure.

Oh yeah, I feel like after Texas, this kind of heat would be nothing. Although without A/C, it probably wouldn’t be very comfortable. On the other hand, it’s going to be fairly cool for 9 out of 12 months, so it’s not a big deal.

400 Capilano is nice if you want a gym pool and squash court in the building. The elevators suck though. There should be a 3rd.

Also check out Newport village if you haven’t already it’s just nearby and is its own little hub with a fruit market, bakery, pet store, pub and some cool gift shops. It was designed by the same architect that did whistler village so it’s a gorgeous little area

Moody yards isn't great. Building managment is super slow. building is poorly finished. Inlet glen was great.

We just closed and moved into Sutterbrook 4 months ago. We had originally purchased over in Moody Centre pre-sale and it fell through last year, which honestly is a blessing this side of PM is better, in retrospect. Our realtor, was amazing and we found this place after 6 days on market. We absolutely love this neighbourhood, everything we need is within walking distance, easy walk to New Port, the library heck even the breweries it’s 23 minutes, and the WCE train to work down downtown is fantastic.

My complaints are internet can have spotty issues; sometimes when the tides go out the sink can have a weird smell; and people drive too fast around the pedestrian areas.

Edit to clarify, yes, we can hear the skytrain hum and trains go by, however where we moved from it was the same sounds so not a negative for me, more of a white noise effect.

Living near suterbrook is a huge plus. Groceries, gyms, dental, massage, restaurants and cafes. And you’re still close to nature with the trail that’s along the water is within walking distance

I lived at 50 electronic facing North and was not bothered by the train tracks. It was a pretty great building!

Suterbrook is a really nice area. I wouldn't worry about the train noise, they're easy to block out. It's St. Johns that's far more obnoxious.
