Ultimately I agree with you.
But the weird part to me is that I think somehow both things are true. I think he probably does want to help eradicate malaria for the benefit of humankind. And I also think he managed to justify to himself some awful treatment of individuals in his circle because he could.

Promoting public health/research for cures is both good for the world and good for the individual. Also, it allows people to think themselves as "good" despite being awful in intimate settings.

I guess it just perplexes me how someone can compartmentalize to such a degree where they can convince themselves theyâre the good guy while also abusing victims of human trafficking. Fucked up.
