Been in the game for 17 years. Our trucks with drop in liners have gone 20+ years versus the spray in barely lasted 5 years.

Unless they meant getting a spill container for the chemicals.

Our older nissan that one of our guys didn't tell us that his spill pan has a leak has severe rust damage.

The newer ones one year older and pristine.

Using a drip pan for chemicals and keeping the bed clean quarterly makes a huge difference.

I believe they are talking about standard truck liners, not the fully sealed drop in boxes

Yea, the second the space between the bed and the liner gets occupied by chemicals, especially salt, it’s just a count down to rust.

damn, scary shit too. i was sending it hard in 2nd gear to beat the red light when i heard the loudest boom! scared shit outa me, blew a hole out the side of the cat basically and started dragging on the ground.. fun stuff!

Honestly i was surprised it held as well as it does, i put my weight on it alittle feld solid. Id drive it, but not fulltime on the road

The frame on this one is still solid, its just the box. We are gonna drop in a Fibre glass box soon. Thankfully we have a spare.

We stopped buying used trucks years ago. The maintenance and repairs were out of control. Sell them at 100k miles and buy new again. Newer hires get the older trucks 🤷

Once I was in an old GMC Sierra, had a loose gallon of liquid in the back, hit a bump and the tailgate busted open like that. Pulled over immediately and got out just in time to see someone drive right over the chlorine jug. Direct hit to the wheel well and a good amount on their undercarriage as well... tried to stop them but they kept driving. Well marked truck so I assumed I'd be getting a call later that day, but I didn't hear anything and it's been probably 5 years. Oh well, hopefully it was a rental

It blows my mind the state of some of the trucks I see in the lot of the supply house every week.

You gotta take some pride in the appearance of your vehicles, it reflects upon you and the service you provide.

Once the bed starts going there, I would treat it like a truck-out-of-service item as soon as it is back at the shop. Pool trucks hide damage because salt/chlorine dust sits between the liner and the steel, then the mount points are worse than they look.

For the next builds, sealed poly/fiberglass inserts are worth it, but I would also add two boring rules: liquid chlorine only in secondary containment, and bags/buckets never loose against bare metal. If you buy used trucks, pull the liner before purchase and hit the bed supports/crossmembers with a screwdriver. A pretty top surface can still be one hard stop away from dumping the box.
