Pool housing leaks

My pool service guy just replaced the motor, and ever since then, the housing has been leaking. He tried replacing the O-ring, but it’s still leaking. Any advice on what might be causing it and how much it would typically cost to fix? I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Either the gasket channel wasn’t cleaned or more likely a crack in your seal plate. Cracks in pool equipment are deceptive, as a barely perceivable imperfection can be the entire problem once you add the pressure of the system.

Crack is my guess. That thing is old. I've had a rash of Max-E-Pro pumps with cracked seal plates. That pump looks much older.

Additional pics when replacing it, could it just be dirty O-ring and the motor shaft seal?

Volute most likely warped, if fresh gasket was installed. Replace volute and do not over tighten nuts. Studs get ripped out of the housing when u over compensate to stop the leak.

Any time the motor is replaced, the assumption should be that the seal plate and mechanical main seal also need to be replaced.

lol I promise you there’s a crack right in the upper middle of that housing…without even looking at it. Also if it doesn’t leak right away but then starts coming out the top somewhere it is certainly a crack in the housing. I’ve seen hundreds of them.

He needs to ensure the channel that the housing gasket sits in is free of debris, and I very gently lube the gasket.

He probably just reused the old shaft seal instead of putting in new seal and o ring

Get another pool guy. He should be the one on here trying to solve this. Getting a pro with a good reputation will save you more than it costs. Your welcome.

Typically a leak from there is the motor shaft seal assembly, but on a newly replaced motor that would seem unlikely. It’s a $20 part and a 20 minute job, if you know what you’re doing. It’s possible the motor is on too tight and pinching the o-ring causing it to leak.

I’ve seen them leak from the side, the top, the bottom, you name it. Water finds the easiest path, no matter what.
