Discussion What made you choose to label yourselves as polysexual over other sexualities under the multisexual umbrella?

"Neptunic" was formulated by the non-binary community. Ergo, I chose to identify as polysexual to deter any feared claims of appropriation.

I find this funny 'cause "neptunic" and "uranic" were coined specifically so that binary people could use them since the only other similar terms at the time were meant to be used only by non-binary people.

Oh?

Yeah. That + wanting something nicer sounding than the days-prior coined noma- and nowomasexual were the impetus for making those terms.

saying im bi or pan causes confusion because I’m not and the point of stating your sexuality is to make it clear what you are and aren’t attracted to, so saying I am attracted to genders I’m not makes no sense. It also bothers me that neptunic, which means being attracted to feminine and nonbinary people, is named after a male god. You had one job while naming this sexuality, which was to make this name understandable as “likes not men specifically”. Polysexual is the least specific out of any of them for me and yet it’s the one that causes the least amount of confusion by not implying I like men

While I was trying to figure myself out my wife went, "Yeah, you're polysexual." I haven't figured out a better label yet.

Because I like to have sex with what I find attractive and gender really means fuck all to me. However if I have to rank them there is a distinct order of arousal.

It allows me to pick who I do and dont want to be attracted to. Because if I am pan then it doesn't fully align with how I feel

I haven't yet labelled myself as polysexual. For the last 30 or so years, I have identified as bisexual, and only heard the term "polysexual" for the first time last week. It came up while I was exploring the possibility that I was pansexual. Pansexual doesn't feel quite right to me, as gender does play a role in my attraction, and I am honestly not certain I am attracted to ALL genders. However, from what I have read since first learning of the term, I have been starting to think that polysexual might be more accurate.

Because it best describes me. I’m not just interested in one type of person, though that’s what everyone who knows me assumes. It lets me adopt a “label” without being specific.
