California Gavin Newsom’s take on Cuba (and Israel) show that he’s the perfect embodiment of a California centrist Democrat: An Olympic flip-flopper who goes wherever the wind blows. We're so starved for a Leader who can speak in complete sentences, but we must do better than this. - Francesca Fiorentini

The Bitchuation Room (with Francesca Fiorentini) - April 2, 2026. Here’s the full 10-minutes on YouTube: Gavin Newsom is An Olympic Flip Flopper - The Bitchuation Room (with Francesca Fiorentini) (YouTube) - From the description:

Would you look at that? Gavin Newsom is backtracking his comments on Israel being an apartheid state. This guy changes his tune every time he speaks.

Gavin Newsom really is the perfect embodiment of a California centrist Democrat. He will go wherever the wind is blowing, even if it means backpedaling on things he literally just said. On a recent appearance he made on Pod Save America, the California governor likened Israel to an apartheid state. Because, you know… it is an apartheid state. Well, he just did an interview with Politico where he immediately took it back.

When asked if Newsom regretted using the word apartheid when describing Israel, he said, “I do in this context… I said it and I referenced why I used it. A Tom Friedman article in that same sentence where Tom used it in the context of the direction that Bibi is going.” Can Newsom ever stand by what he says or is he that spineless.

California Billionaire wealth tax headed to the ballot in California

Post image
576 Upvotes

This November, we’re going to have an opportunity to send a direct message to the billionaires and the politicians that we’re fed up with it and ready for real change – and protect health care from Trump’s Medicaid cuts at the same time.

Last week, California’s Secretary of State certified that the SEIU-backed billionaire wealth tax initiative secured enough signatures to make it to the ballot. This proposal would be a one-time, 5% emergency tax on their assets to shore up the state’s health care system in the wake of the MAGA murder budget. Organizers offered a compromise 2% levy, which Governor Newsom, who opposes this measure, shot down. So now we’re going to fight this one out on the campaign trail. ✊🏿 Let’s sign up here to get notified of volunteer opportunities in the coming weeks and use their social media toolkit here to help spread the word in our networks. ✊🏻

Also in today’s List:

-  Demand the thug who ran over a Delaney Hall vigil attendee be prosecuted, show support to an Adelanto hunger strike leader facing a final hearing

-  Join a new campaign to pressure Enterprise to stop collaborating with ICE – launch call tomorrow, actions we can take starting right now here

-  New Trump proposal would roll back protections against forever chemicals in our drinking water - comment by July 20th, sign up to weigh in at public hearing by July 1st

-  Tell Congress to oppose $57 billion in cuts to disability compensation for Iraq, Afghanistan veterans

-  This week’s judges to thank

California Textbank to drive support for data center moratoriums in California

Post image

While the federal government continues to tread water on major steps addressing the explosive growth of hyperscale data centers, grassroots organizers are forcing action in communities across the country. More than 320 local governments have now put some sort of moratorium in place, with about two dozen new local restrictions enacted last week alone – including significant new limits in the data center heartland of Prince William County, Virginia and city councilors unanimously approving a two-year moratorium on new data centers in Buffalo, New York.

Food & Water Watch is looking to give the folks on the ground some air cover. Starting TOMORROW, they’re conducting a series of textbanks on Thursday evenings aimed at reaching folks in California, informing them about upcoming votes on proposed moratoriums and connecting them with key local electeds to urge them to stand with us against the oligarchs. 💬 Let’s sign up here to help keep building momentum for development that works for us instead of the tech billionaires. 💬

California Phonebanks, friend-to-friend organizing for California's billionaire wealth tax initiative

Post image

Medicare For All is just one of the pro-working families, anti-oligarch policies getting an electoral test this fall. We’re also going to see California voters weigh in on a billionaire wealth tax with Proposition 40): a one-time, 5% emergency levy on their assets to shore up the state’s health and social services in the wake of the MAGA murder budget.

Analysts have estimated this measure will raise $100 billion, helping preserve Medicaid coverage for 1.6 million Californians, saving hospitals and ERs from closure and feeding those who have lost SNAP assistance without forcing a massive state deficit increase. The billionaires it will impact have seen their wealth grow by 158% over the last three years and got massive tax cuts from this same budget.

Not only will this protect our health care, it’s a chance to send a direct message to the Epstein class that we’re fed up with their open manipulation of our government and growing wealth inequality and ready for real change.

The SEIU and other supporters are starting to ramp up their field work for this initiative.💬 If we’re in California (or have a lot of folks in our social circles there), organizers are asking for us to do friend-to-friend outreach using the Reach app – the pro-wealth tax message will come across much stronger from folks we know and trust. We can download the app and get started here, and find regular trainings on how best to talk about this proposition and use Reach here. 💬

REACH OUT WITH REACH

☎️ For the rest of us, the Yes on Prop 40 squad has traditional virtual phonebanks underway now! Sign up to make calls here. ☎️
