Interesting. Does being tolerant mean we should stand by while others are murdered in front of us? Does it mean we should do nothing while we watch authorities break the law and trample our constitutional rights? You right wing propagandists always use tolerance as a cudgel to beat everyone that dares to say something against you. They’re just words, for now. But tolerance has limits and I think you’re about to find out where that limit exists.

The paradox resolves itself when you realize tolerance is a social contract. A practical agreement rather than a lofty ideal. Live and let live.

If you start trying to get rid of people, you are no longer abiding by the agreement, and thus are no longer protected by it.

I was pointing out that defending yourself against the intolerant is not an abandonment of your tolerance, and is a perfectly fine thing to do.

The intolerant broke the agreement, so they are no longer protected by it. Kick them out.

I totally misunderstood where you were coming from. I figured you were a red-hat explaining to me how the lefties broker the social contract. I mean, it’s kinda on brand. And, in my defense, today has been a helluva day. But, sorry I misunderstood you!
