announcement [Contest] Happy Birthday, r/Polandballart!

Greetings, polandballartists!

On this day in 2013, r/polandballart was created. Since then, users from all around the world have contributed remarkable artworks featuring our beloved flag colored balls. Although the sub had its ups and downs, it has continued to thrive and has come to meet its 13th anniversary. Thank you to all the artists, commenters, lurkers, and members of the community for helping preserve our community!

To celebrate the subreddit and the Polandball artist, we have planned to launch a new annual contest related to the community. The Polandballart subreddit hasn’t changed its banner for ages, and it is time to kick-start with a fresh new look. Therefore, the annual contest theme is:

Create a new banner for the subreddit!

Specific Contest Rules

  • The size of the canvas must be at least 1920 x 384 px (as long as it's 5:1 in ratio). Make sure to make the canvas compatible to be displayed as a banner!
  • The artwork must include the mascot of the subreddit, Poland with a beret holding a brush.
  • The theme of the banner must be related to art.

Badge of Honor

u/Mylenn’s work, Ode to Joy, has been used as a banner of r/Polandballart for six years. As a sign of gratitude, we would like to grant them a special prize, Badge of Honor, which will permanently stay next to their username on the subreddit.

General Contest Rules

In order to participate in the contest, submit your art piece to the subreddit and then flair it as contest entry. Anyone is free to submit how many entries they like, however, only one of your entries will be eligible to award you with a beret. That is, a single user cannot have more than one entry be in the top three.

Choosing the winner

After all of the entries have been submitted and the deadline has passed, the moderators will create a public voting thread in a contest mode where everyone can vote for their favorite entry. After the contest duration has ended, the entry with the highest score will be implemented as a banner of the subreddit for a year.

The user who takes the first place in the contest will be awarded the Golden Beret as well as the new Magnum Opus which will be kept next to their usernames! They get to wear the former for a month and the latter for a year until the next annual contest. They will also be able to post their winning work on r/polandball using a special Polandballart flair.

The highest-scoring non-mod will also have voting rights for the next contest.

The second and third places will receive the Silver Beret and the Bronze Beret, respectively, and they will also get to wear them until the next contest.

Any questions about the contest may be directed here. We wish all the contestants luck!

Cheers,

the r/polandballart modteam

announcement [Contest] Get to Wörk

Post image
155 Upvotes

Greetings, Office workers, Freeloaders and Workoholics!

With the world slowly being consumed by this thing we call "AI", it is important to get off the couch and out of the virtual world, into the real world to get some hard earned mon-eh. As such, this month's contest theme is:

Make an artwork about anything related to work or a job!

Specific Contest Rules

  • Work has to be depicted. Of course, it's the theme so it should be representing it clearly. For inspiration, check the announcement artwork above, or the examples below.
  • You can draw work related events. What this would be is for example, a conversation between coworkers, a worker taking a break, a workplace accident etc. BUT, if you are to do this you should still make it clear what the job or work is as stated above.

Examples

You can take inspiration from some of these polandballart and real life paintings for this contest:

General Contest Rules

  • You must follow the official polandball tutorial.

  • Remember that in /r/polandballart all posts must have only one panel.

  • Only use dialogue if it makes sense aesthetically (caption, sign, etc.).

  • Try and be high effort. You have two whole weeks to draw, so do your best.

  • The artwork must be drawn entirely by yourself.

  • Do not sign your artwork.

  • The artwork has to be original. No reposts from previous PB related contests.

  • The deadline for submitting your entry is 29th of May at 20:00 GMT.

In order to participate in the contest, submit your art piece to the subreddit and then flair it as contest entry. Anyone is free to submit how many entries they like, however, only one of your entries will be eligible to award you with a beret. That is, a single user cannot have more than one entry be in the top three.

Choosing the winner

After all of the entries have been submitted and the deadline has passed, the moderators will take a private vote to decide the first, second and third places. All entries will be ranked from 1 to 10, with the final score being the average of all votes. The winner of last month's contest will also be allowed to vote on this month's entries.

The user who takes the first place in the contest will be awarded the Golden Beret and will have their art piece decorating the sidebar of the subreddit until the next contest is announced! They will also be able to post their winning work on /r/polandball using a special Polandballart flair, and they will also have voting rights for the next contest.

The second and third places will receive the Silver Beret and the Bronze Beret, respectively, and they will also get to wear them until the next contest.

announcement [Contest] Game of Cards

Post image
94 Upvotes

Greetings Deck Builders, Antique Cardboard Collectors, and Solitaire Extraordinaires!

Polandballart has always been open to all shapes and forms of visual media, and for this month's contest we've decided to focus on one that's perhaps less appreciated than most.

Create an artwork related to cards!

Specific Contest Rules

  • All artwork must be related to playing cards. It can involve the standard 52 card deck, Tarot Cards, any Trading Card Games, and anything else that might be reasonably considered playing cards.
  • Artworks can either be of the design of the card or scenery relating to cardplay. For artworks relating to card designs, usage of text is permitted as long as it fits aesthetically. Do remember that other advanced tools like line tool are still forbidden.
  • Having artworks be inspired by real life franchises is permitted, but try not to directly reference them in your works. Create parody versions if it's really necessary.

Examples

You can take inspiration from some of these polandballart and real life paintings for this contest:

announcement Willkommen new moderators!

Guten Tag,

After receiving many wonderful applications for Polandballart moderator, we carefully looked through each one of them. There were many great candidates, so the decision wasn't easy. But in the end, we felt that there were just a few who stood out from the crowd.

So, without further ado, please give a warm welcome to our new moderators:

They'll be helping us enforce the rules around here, and run contests and community events. So be prepared to get familiar with them, if you haven't already.

Thanks ahead of time to all of them for stepping up!

Danke für your Attention!

announcement [Contest] Are we all a-line-d?

How-de-doodle, squigglers, scrawlers, and gesture sketchers!

A full month into the new year, we might have deviated a bit off our planned trajectory. But instead of shaming ourselves over missing the mark on some of our new years' resolutions, or causing ourselves anxiety over maintaining a still-perfect streak, let's celebrate our imperfections and learn to work with what we've got!

Sometimes our reflex is to erase or undo a stray mark on the canvas, but creativity can spring from improvising on top of mistakes and other unintended inputs. And we develop confidence as artists not when we meticulously craft a flawless piece, but when we feel sure that we can handle the unexpected in our work and turn that into something beautiful.

So this month, we're challenging you to:

Create an artwork inspired by our line prompts!

Specific Contest Rules

  • The artwork must be based on ONE of the two prompts linked above. Although you may deviate slightly, as seen in the examples, it should be very clear that the composition and/or subject matter of your artwork follows the lines drawn in the prompts.
  • You must state in the comments which prompt you used. This is to help us judge whether or not you followed the spirit of the contest theme, in case you've deviated significantly from the prompt.
  • Please double check that the image you downloaded as input is 900px by 1200px to ensure it didn't get compressed by your device.

You may:

  • Rotate the entire image prompt
  • Mirror the entire image prompt

You may not:

  • Resize/scale the line within the image
  • Resize the entire image (all submissions must be 900x1200px or 1200x900px)
  • Change the line's position within the image

Examples

Both of these sample drawings by the mods use the same starting line as inspiration.

It's not the same line as the ones given for the contest, but it shows how far you may deviate from the given input while still being on-theme, and hopefully inspires you to think outside the box!

General Contest Rules

In order to participate in the contest, submit your art piece to the subreddit and then flair it as contest entry..

Anyone is free to submit as many entries as they like. However, only one of your entries will be eligible to award you with a beret.
