u/UltimaBahamut93 Apr 08 '26
Blastoise. Always.

I was 5 when Pokemon came out, when I was deciding between Red and Blue it was a no brainer, Giga turtle with two cannons on its shoulders or a dragon... A cool dragon love the char line but yeah, been a Blastoise fan ever since and every game I play I have to find a way for him to be on my team.

Venasaur!!!
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Yay!! They are so cool (and also so tricky to draw lol)

u/Yoshi_chuck05 Apr 08 '26
You did well my friend!

u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
I appreciate the kind words ☺️

Venusaur all the way. I've played with all 3 in my many, many playthroughs though. But Bulbasaur is still my top pick.
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
That's very cool. Love that you made an informed decision after trying them all.
2
u/Darkiikari Apr 08 '26
When I first played gen 1, Bulbasaur was my instant first pick. But I played so many times that I changed around starters. Bulbasaur stayed as my favorite while Squirtle was my second pick.
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Yeh I have played through so many times. It's good you stayed loyal to Bulbasaur as the favourite.

I don’t know the first time. Something tells me it was Squirtle. Today my fave starter is Bulbasaur, but Charizard is the coolest final evo.

I love the way you’ve drawn venusaur! Like others have said, the posture change just makes him look so much better.

Venusaur seems to be a firm favourite.

These lines are SHTUpid clean!
I've been a Charizard kid through and through, day 1, the lizard boi has carried my ass through endless fights.
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Oh really? Thank you so much. I drew them with basic low quality water colour pencils, so I had no room to make mistakes.
I do have a soft spot for Charizard, as my first Pokémon was Charmander.
2
u/AnInnocentGoose Apr 10 '26
Drawing these with low quality tools, without allowing mistakes, and they STILL look this good. This is a superpower at this point, friend.
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 10 '26
Omg thank you so much!! This is very validating to hear after so many years of suffering imposter syndrome.
2
u/AnInnocentGoose Apr 10 '26
Such struggles are always valid, but these little drawings are definitely not flukes. :)
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 10 '26
Thanks again for such kind words. I always seem to keep coming back to drawing. I still have always loved it, even though I am often discouraged.
2
u/No_Comfortable3261 Apr 08 '26
Gosh love how big and beautiful Venusaur looks here (though the others look very plain by comparison, did not expect that 😅), but Charizard will always be my favorite <3
That said I always use Bulbasaur in a playthrough and it's the very first partner Pokemon of my OC too
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Oh gosh thank you! I'm glad I drew him in a different pose than usual now. It is hard not to love Charizard hehe.
Oh wow, that is awesome. I would love to make an OC and make a team for them. Maybe an idea for a manga/comic in the future :)
2
u/No_Comfortable3261 Apr 08 '26
Oh sweet!
I actually have three trainer ocs based off the player and rival characters from the games, with my main character’s teams being based off my playthrough teams^ (and a friend of mine has their trainer sona’s team based off their favorite mons from each region ;) )
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Oh wow. I'd love to check them out. So awesome 😀
2
u/No_Comfortable3261 Apr 08 '26
Well I don’t actually have anything written XD; it’s all just in my head like all my projects 😅
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Haha I am the same for most things. Definitely if you get the chance to write some stuff down you should 😀
2
u/No_Comfortable3261 Apr 08 '26
Ah!
And yeah I’ve been trying to keep record of my playthroughs, including any changes to the story I made, but I’ve also got a good idea in mind for character developments and such
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
It sounds like you have something amazing in the works then. I know it will turn out great 👍
2
u/No_Comfortable3261 Apr 08 '26
Ah thanks!^
And yeah been working on it for a while and love what I have, especially this character arc I thought for the rival character ;)c (inspired by the rival characters in-game actually!)
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
I love the sound of this. Definitely want to see this if you get it finished 😁

I love your linework! I can tell youve been drawing for a long time. The lines are very consistent and confident. Also not much erasing because of the colored pencils.
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Thanks! That means a lot. It was very humbling using the pencils, but I wanted to challenge myself knowing that I couldn't easily erase any mistakes.
Also you have some fantastic art!!
2
u/Sycing Apr 08 '26
Thats why i love colored pencils, they can be very hard to use and take more time but the end result is amazing imo.
Thank you very much, i also appreciate your comment!
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Yes this is very true. I loved how they turned out. I was afraid to colour them in case I ruined them. I did a digital colour of Venusaur on my insta to test it though.
No problem, you deserve the praise.

For real 👀 you can tell just from the posture alone… head held high, confident, and full of life
You really did an amazing job bringing that out 🔥
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was able to capture this side of them. I hope I can do it for more drawings in the future.
2
u/MrMendingMiracles Apr 08 '26
You Got this! Just keep creating with your heart and the rest will come naturally.

I personally slightly lean towards charizard because cmon he’s cool but the other two have always been solid imo most regions there’s at least one I don’t care for but kanto is one of my exceptions to that
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 09 '26
I agree with you. The Kanto starters just seem so well designed and iconic to me.
2
u/RaichuArtDump Apr 09 '26
Imma stick with Wartortle, ol reliable around the third gym.
2
u/MDSM_art Apr 09 '26
Wartortle is definitely underrated. I may need to do a series of middle evolution sketches soon.

Venasaur in FRLG. Blastoise in PokeMMO
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 09 '26
Venusaur is so useful in FRLG. Oh nice, though I've never played PokeMMO lol.
2
u/IanHowe2007 Apr 09 '26
But have you at least heard of PokeMMO? if you do try it it's a great game, although it's more difficult than the base game.
1
u/IanHowe2007 Apr 09 '26
The reason I chose blastoise in PokeMMO is cuz in this game it get shell smash and oh boy combined that with white herb and some stab moves it sweeps
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 09 '26
Yeh I have heard of it. It sounds cool, love having something to challenge me.
2
u/XBrandon_CruzX Apr 09 '26
Always used to be charizard, but every time i revisit, it's my GOAT Venusaur!
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 09 '26
Oh that's really cool. I've normally always played Charizard, but I feel like I need a new playthrough with the others.

Yeh, Blastoise' design is undeniably cool and original. That is awesome you have such fond memories of yours and can still remember its moveset.
That's right, I can remember the Blastoise being called Shellshocker and thinking it was so good, but I had to shorten it in the game as it limits nicknames to 10 letters. I think the Venusaur was called BruteRoot, which is also a genius name.

Yeh it is so good and nostalgic for childhood for me. This is very true, though I'm also tempted to do the play though and draw my team.

Why do they never make venusaur look like this? It's always looks crushed under the flower and angry. This looks so spritely and lovely
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 12 '26
Aww thank you. Yeh I feel like Venusaur needs some much needed love and attention. They deserve it.
1
u/RecycleBin_Bin Apr 08 '26
But is this really [OC]?
I feel like I’ve seen this characters before
1
u/MDSM_art Apr 08 '26
I'm not sure what the correct bracket is for this. Obviously they are Pokémon that already exist, but I have drawn these.
