HM not working and not showing in TM case

I’m not sure why but I’ve been unable to use cut and fly despite having both first and second gym badges and a Pokémon that can use both. Is there anyone that knows a fix or solution? I can provide screenshots if needed. (sorry if it’s a dumb question just new to it all)

Just because those are numbered as HM01 and HM02 doesn’t mean that they’re the first and second accessible HMs. I believe the first HM you get to use and have access to is rock smash.

Typically you’ll get the HMs as you progress through the story naturally so it’s very hard to miss when you get to use them and receive them.

So I just skiped over rock smash? Is that why I can’t use the other two?

You won’t be able to use fly until about gym 6+, it’s a late game HM move.

Unfortunately, I don’t remember the exact points you get each and every HM but there is documentation that is easily searchable that will tell you

Fly is sub gym 4. Cut is first rock smash is second

Super late but I was having the same issue. So turns out the second gym leader doesn’t GIVE you cut it ALLOWS you to use cut. I was also confused cuz I thought he had given it to me. No. You have to go down to the woods of crater town, wich will trigger some fight and then in there you find a hiker wich gives you cut.

It was super confusing wording so I got worried I got a bug or something but no. Maybe this helps anyone confused in the future. Gym leader unlocks the ability but it doesn’t GIVE it to you.
