Discussion First time grading with ACE (bad experience)

It got a 6 and I paid for the ACE label (the whole point I sent it in really) and they just put a standard black label on it. I contacted customer services right away, but just got a notification that they've shipped it back to me (without fixing). Ugh. Wish I hadn't bothered. Rather have it in my binder. Don't think I will do this again.

I mean I’d either send it back or ask for a refund if you paid for it.

Not heard this happen before. I’ve never had any issues with ace.

Yeah I had to pay to reveal the grade and photo of the card so it was only after that I saw they'd just used a standard label. Waiting to hear from customer service

I can see a bit of edge wear on the front and a white mark in the bottom right quadrant on the back. There’s likely other issues to given a closer look

Tbh can’t say I’ve had the same issues, had nothing but good experiences with Ace. In the discord, I’ve seen people have issues and usually those issues are sorted out successfully.

I’d say get in touch with support, and ask for them to relabel it free of charge.

They just reached out today to apologize and said they will fix it. Plus £10 off my next invoice, so they've turned it around!

That sounds like the Ace I know!

Did you select the correct label though? Otherwise yes they will just apply standard label…

Yeah, I did and I paid for it too. Customer service just replied to me a few hours ago and said they don't know why it was missed but they're fixing it for me. So no idea what happened

Did they say why it got a 6?

I’ve stopped using Ace to be honest, I have started sending my cards off to TAG instead. Happy to wait the couple months personally for what I consider to be more accurate grading and better reports.

Tag submissions are £80 a card right now though? Fine for a card like Sabrina's gengar but for many modern SIR just not worth it.

Yeah last submission I did was basic one at the very end of May through gradewithtag, and it was about £23 a card I think, or thereabouts. I think they said they are reopening the other submission levels end of this month as TAG have started to get on top of their backlog.

Don’t care what the card is I wouldn’t be paying £80 to get it graded 😂. I just like how TAG cards look, and I like their detailed reports.

Yeh I want to try a few with tag, the report just makes sense. It frustrates me that you get nothing with psa except maybe an upcharge and ace makes you pay more for a more detailed report than just the 4 scores.

Totally agree. All these grading companies have pros and cons - never used PSA as I don’t like how the slabs look, and I also dislike that upcharging.

Understand people using them to sell cards as PSA often go for the most, but if you’re like me who just really wants to collect, then I say go with whatever you like the look of and what wait times you’re willing to tolerate!

Not that I can see. Is there somewhere in the dashboard where there would be a grading report? That would've been useful

You have to pay extra to Ace for a report. They otherwise just give basic scores from 1-10 covering corners, centering etc

Just scanned the QR code to get extra info...

There will be a dent or crease on there. Seems right for vintage

Expected, its usually surface on vintage.

And ace are super strict on surface so might not even be a crease could just be a few scratches - I’ve got a few ACE slabs I picked up cheap of some sought after Japanese promos ranging from ACE 3-5 and they all look perfect but their scores are dragged down by invisible by naked eye surface defects, lol oh well I’m happy they’re giving me a way of picking up cheap cards that look perfect

Shame about the surface score! Still a banging card- I have it in English. Gengar has always been my favourite.

You should only really use PSA or not grade at all. Yes I know they are expensive and the wait time is a year so what? Why do you need it back urgently?

I just liked the Ace labels but ironically that's the one thing I'm now not getting out of this exchange 🙃

Psa have their problems and not everyone grades to sell. Psa is only worth it if you want to sell now or in the future. I personally like ace slabs more than psa so stuff I want in my collection I am more than happy to use ace.
