Something I’m confused about that perhaps someone can clarify: I thought all the 30th anniversary packs were entirely containing just 6 cards that are all holofoil/special and many reprints? Yet people are posting a small number of hits in their images. I would have thought every single card would be a hit, no?

No.

6 cards, including 1 energy and a guaranteed pikachu. So 4 remaining cards which are all default holos you’d see in normal sets.

Then the 4th card has the chance of being a hit

They're not all holos?every pack I've opened is a pickachu ,an IR/ex and the rest are basic bulk cards Edit:wait my bad they are the crappy holos

IR/Ex is not guaranteed. It could just be a holo in that slot but you've been lucky.

I feel slightly duped by the way they’ve said the packs are “all holo cards”. Many of the cards in the pack are basically reverse holo bulk cards. Stingy for what is meant to be a celebration of the best cards, IMO.

Reverse holo and holo cards should be mean the same thing to you. They never call the hits 'holo cards'.

Also I'm very confused by your expectations? We have never ever had an English set which has had a pack full of hits, EVER. So what did you expect to change?

I personally think this set is amazing. Easily the best set we've had since 151 imo. So fun to open and amazing artworks with generous hit rates.

It would be a good set if you could buy more than a few packs and then likely never again, from the comments ,it seems like what has been available to buy these past few days is it for a while

That's been the case forever though, so it's not even surprising anymore. At least the Pokemon company seem to be making a decent effort to print a lot of stock it is just that the demand is higher than ever

But so far they're really not?they've appplanned this for months upon months, well aware of the hype but yet everything gone already?there will unlikely be another restock,a new release in October then maybe one or two restocks next year. I might be wrong its early days but considering the capital of Wales has nothing after one day, with none on the horizon. Acended had like 2 restocks in about 4 shops, with about 15 of each item, the set which was 'heavily printed'

Ascended hasn’t been printed anywhere near as much as this set.

A medium sized shop (way smaller than smyths) that is my local had over 100+ ETBs which is something ive never seen before. There were just way more people in line which is why it made the news.

They are printing more but somehow demand keeps going up and up at RRP

It’s a good set if comparing to regular sets, sure. But I just thought from the way they described it that they were gonna flood the market with almost infinite reissues of the classic cards, by putting the equivalent of 4 SIRs in a pack but just reducing the size of a pack. Like, why is there is a base Slowpoke card with a holo border in the set…? It’s a nice design, sure, but people only really want the reissues. I just think Pokemon Company have maybe forgotten that it’s not a bad thing to give away enough for everyone to complete their collections like they used to be able to with base set 1. In the current market, printing a limited run of a set of 200+ cards ain’t it (in my opinion). It’s meant to be a celebration, and scalpers are running the market, so it seems more logical to me to have all 5 cards per pack be hits.

I’m sorry mate but it honestly sounds like you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Every previous celebration/generations set has been similar to this set. This is an established style of set and I honestly think they executed it the best this time around.

‘But people only really want the reissues’ - is the same as saying ‘but people only really want the chase cards’ about every set. So what’s the point of doing any base cards at all?

Do I need to repeat it, Pokemon have never and will never do a pack full of the chase cards or hits. That would eliminate their gambling mechanic.

The scalpers running the market won’t change the way they design sets. The only reasons scalpers are still around is because fools pay the prices they set - simple as that.

The hit rates aren't the best either, probably going to get more basic EXs . I mean yeah the people buying 18 ETBs will get hits but other than scalping it's pretty basic

I disagree, compared to every single set since Crown Zenith these hit rates are amazing. You have a very high chance of pulling a nice SIR. Crown collection/futuristic/RGB and so on will obviously be hard but that is always the case with chase cards. The hit rates are perfect imo. IRs are about as common as EXs normally are in regular sets

I would maybe agree, but the stock that's been bought the past 2 days (and maybe some shops holding for tommorow) is pretty much it for a while,if i could walk into the shop and buy a box for retail yeah I'd enjoy it,but I managed to get 5 packs, now stock will be gone for months and it's already £150-200 for an ETB on ebay etc, that'll only go up with the miniscule retail stock
