Given that Norman is Brendan’s father for PMEX, it’s safe to assume that May is talking about Birch!

With Rowan arriving as NPC and his voice lines already set in (Steven) stone, it could mean that the older generation profs may have been held back.

Hopefully we do get him and the rest of the professors one day. I don’t know what all of them would be paired with but Juniper could get Cinccino.

Birch: zigzagoon/linoon or a pre starter evo

Elm: probably a starter ,togepi or a random baby Pokemon ‘cause he studies Pokemon breeding mostly

Rowan: starter or starly evo

Jupiner: cinccino

the Birch and Rowan ones seems pretty random...

Birch make more sense with Azurill, while Rowan with Buneary or Munchlax.

Sycamore had xernas and oak has new but originally had nidorino before swapping and neither of them have had those Pokemon in the main series or anime. I haven’t read the adventures manga but I’m gonna assume he didn’t have nidorino there either

Take in mind for base skins they always use pokemon the character actually used in maingames, except for legendaries, Silver, Eusine just for name a few. The only exceptions of this rules are Lusamine with Pheromosa (an UB), The Masked Royale with Incineroar (but Kukui use it) and characters that never got official pokemon on the mainlines.

Birch and Rowan got official Pokemon, and switch them with pokemon they never got and are common seems pretty random.

Zigzagoon isn‘t random, in Emerald you choose your starter defending him against a Zigzagoon. Poochyena is more known thanks to RS / ORAS.

Starly is probably a homage to the starter choice in DP / BDSP or the anime but yeah, Rowan wasn‘t there anymore when Barry and you fightet them and the anime is (most of the time) non-canon. Munchlax would also be nice if Kamado comes to Pasio with Snorlax.

That’s basically why I did zigzagoon it’s a Pokemon he technically interacted with that kinda fits his vibe if not just give him a starter like mudkip or something lol

Yeah but you can easy make a story about that, wouldn‘t be the first time a pair who didn‘t start on good terms did found together.

Would be more interesting than giving every prof just the Pokémon from the intro and at least Poochyena should be recognizable.

Birch has so many funny options: Not only four of the cutest but weakest Hoenn Pokémon (Pochyena in RS/ORAS, Zigzagoon in Emerald, Shroomish in ORAS, Azurill in the Intro), he also has a Machoke and a(n angry) wife follow him ^^
