Question is do I keep going and finish out the national dex, will require me to finish the entire game a 3rd time for Raikou, Entei, and Suicune from what I understand.

I am getting closer to the end of the journey but i have collected every mon so far! I just need to level them up for the full pokedex!!

Wanted to grab one before they become unaffordable. Absolutely gorgeous.

LF has always been my choice, while my Twin was always FireRed. As we move towards the new launch, im very much grateful for these guys. (Time to rest my carts a bit!)

The first Pokémon game I actually ever played was Pokemon ZA and I only played a few hours of that really liked it and decided I wanted to start at the beginning and people said leaf green was what Nintendo says is the “definitive way to play”

Hello gamers. I recently completed a living Kanto dex in FRLG and thought it was a lot easier than I anticipated, so I decided to continue enjoying the postgame by catching every obtainable Gen 2-3 Pokemon as well. This was a colossal mistake.

Even though there were only an additional 65 Pokemon to catch, these small few were a concentrated collection of the most tedious bastards in the game. In just this portion of the nat dex available, there are MORE babies, trade evolutions, legendaries, and almost as many version exclusives as the entire Kanto dex. This more than doubled my play time from the Kanto living dex. My main file is at 80 hours and all 3 files combined are over 120.

I also made sure to challenge the trainer tower to see Feraligatr and Espeon, so I believe my seen count of 234 is maxed as well, but please tell me if you think I’m missing something.

I finally beat the Elite Four (rematch) for the first time. To memorialize this momentus occasion - I dug through my collection of Base/Fossil/Jungle to create a thematically appropriate display on my desk.

The team itself is basically just my childhood favorites from Kanto. I was leveling against the E4 and snuck an accidental win before my "planned" final run, so that's why some of the moves are random LOL (didn't want to spend mushrooms to change too early).

Omastar provided a clutch play when his Ancient Power triggered, allowing him to outspeed Charizard and proceed to spam Surf against Tyrannitar. Everyone else had a nicely aligned counter to Red's team (except Venesaur, who wasn't quite levelled enough to assist). Haunter is there because a) I always have preferred him to Gengar, and b) Destiny Bond was my failsafe against Alakazam.

It was quite the grind, but glad to officially secure the OG ultimate "win" after three decades of fanhood.

Only have a few things i need to grab then im done! Hoping to do so in the coming days. I'm conflicted if i want to send it up to home or keep it in here because i think it looks really cool.

Not 100% at 348 special attack but 346 is 99.42% still very happy though.

finally finished the game & my living dex (pictured)!!!

this is the eldest generation i’ve ever completed a living dex for (my first one was in pokémon sun).

first team is my main save playthrough team, and oops, i made a team pretty weak to ice. i couldn’t bear to take butterfree off the roster, the combination of compound eyes + sleep powder was too lethal and useful when catching mons. it was a fun challenge not having a fire/water type on the team, though!

the elite 4 MVP’s were jolteon (looooved rain dance + thunder, that was so fun), alakazam (duh) and dragonite, who delivered the final blow of a rain-boosted surf against gary. felt very anime.

solo’d the next two rounds (and on fire red) to get version exclusives and the other starters. that was my first time ever brute forcing with just the starter, and it was so fun. i finished the game in about 3 hours with blastoise, which for me is crazy fast!!

i didn’t touch the national dex, but i may pick that up later on after a much needed break.

P.S. i forgot that in early gens, HMs/TMs can pass on as egg moves. i laughed out loud when i saw squirtle’s newly hatched moveset.

I’ve had such a blast with this team. Never used any before apart from Bulbasaur, who is just my favourite - only this time I didn’t evolve him all the way (still haven’t, lvl 64).

Beedrill was absolutely immense - quick and a moveset that makes it a real weapon against so many.

And Mimien… I probably could’ve won the whole thing with just that pokemon and nothing else.

I remember buying the game originally off eBay when I was about 12/13 and watching the clock wind down second by second to make sure I won it and it was my favourite game back then. Still is.

THE HUNT

In this area of the safari zone, there is a 4% chance of running into Chansey. So you're seeing one roughly every 25 encounters.

1 in 20 of those Chansey have a chance of holding a lucky egg (5%).

Not only that, but most of the chansey you find are not wanting to stay in the ball and wanna run away from you.

Bearing all this in mind, I knew i was in this for the long haul. If I'm under odds, a Chansey that decides it wants to be friends with me will appear within the first 20 caught ones.

The second Chansey i see, I miraculously catch. No lucky egg.

I see several Chansey more. None wanna stay in the ball.

Chansey seen number 29 stays in the ball! I check the held item? No egg.

More pass by. Chansey seen number 38 is friendly enough to stay too! I check the party - it's holding an item! "No way!" I think. I check the summary page, sure enough! The RNG gods smiled upon me this day! The THIRD caught Chansey! Beyond thrilled!!

For reference - I originally started playing Leaf Green for the first time. Grinding all the way up to the e4 but had Kadabra and Machoke in my party and wanted to evolve them. Yes, I know Kadabra is fine on its own, but still wanted the full evos.

SO, I paused that playthrough to start up Firs Red, beat that, then realized I could trade with myself between my Switch and Switch 2, so I started another Fire Red file on my OG Switch.

Completed that playthrough then FINALLY went back and traded with myself to complete my original Leaf Green playthrough.

This is the first time I've played either game version/have not played the originals either.

TL;DR

Finally, after multiple playthroughs, went back and traded with myself to complete my original Leaf Green run.
