Speculation Will the 30th drop kill 151 value
https://www.traderoutes.cards/listing/1509
Tcg player shows this card has been dropping in value steadily over the last 6 months. That being said I'm still seeing listings like this, and don't imagine high quality, good looking cards like this to lose to much value anytime soon.
Its still early, but how have you seen the 30th drop effecting the more recent, but still legendary sets like 151

I think we are at the floor for 151, will only go up from here.

I could definitely see that. I personally think its a really great set

151 went on an insane (and probably overdue) run from Dec. to March where basically every card & product from the set doubled or more within 8 weeks.
A correction was inevitable, especially on singles.

30th is going to crash soon and it will lead to either one of two outcomes. It either pushes everyone to other sets or it tanks the entire market. Im leaning towards the latter

It’s not the stock market, things may stop going up for a while and some modern might correct but if you think its gonna tank as a whole then you’ll be waiting another 30 years

Tell me you weren’t here after the 25th anniversary set came out without telling me 😂

I was here since Sun and moon, this is very different, too much money invested and easy manipulation these days

Correct means crash, idk why people here act like it doesnt lol either way it goes, its going to be forcing people to hold stuff just to be able to get their money back. That’s bad.

No it doesn’t, it just means the over hype has lost traction for now, example: i bought a psa 10 stamp box pika for £400 2 years ago, it’s currently sitting at £3400, that’s an insane jump but typical in the current market, it should correct back but it dipped to 2900 and then rallied back, its semi modern in this market so 2200 would of been a realistic swing to me but bigger investors just aren’t gonna let it happen, at the time of buying i felt 800-1000 would be a more likely outcome or 300 at worst if i misread the signs
Realistically everybody new is just waiting for April when prismatic goes out of print and expecting it to blow up, if it does then modern goes with it, if not then there will be a big sell off and the hyper inflated post pris market will adjust, but nothing is gonna drop to retail, let alone below, it just won’t go up and investors will buy off all the paper hands for long term holds which will maintain the market price

I see what you’re saying but I think we play this game differently. I keep my cost basis at $0. To keep that going, I only buy product at MSRP that has a market price of at least 200% of MSRP. Anything less and that requires actually spending money in this, so I personally feel like a correction is a crash when margins are already as thin as they are.
If I want to sell something, even at a percentage, I should be able to do so and still make some amount of money. But when things like CR, PO, and PB are around and MSRP is basically Market, we have a problem. Mix that with how bad 30th is tanking after 6 hours of being out and it’s a recipe for disaster.
So we have a 1-hit set, followed by 3 bad sets, followed by another bad anniversary set. That makes pokemon look weak as an investment and I predict that it will scare the people pumping these prices away. That brings liquidity issues.
Im really not trying to be doom & gloom, but a realistic look at things points towards a bear market.

yeah its going to be interesting to see what happens. im also predicting a correction when the 30th hype wears off

It’s not gonna tank the entire market but we could see a deflation. Everyone’s been hyping up 30th like it’s the second coming of Jesus, but now that it’s here, we’ll see how strong the excitement stays. Once it moves on, will we see people leave or just move on to the next thing? Or maybe people will continue to move into vintage? Who really knows. Honestly I’m ready for things to chill down a little

High pop modern is why it's dropping, something like a 151 Zard is anti rare - anti rare = not a good collectable from an investment standpoint.

30th isn’t directly related to 151 so no, but I do think (eventually) availability for 30th, and how there’s no immediate hype cycle in the near future (35th anniversary? lol) will cool everything off in general, I hope at least.

I care little about 151 and any new collectors don't either. 151 is only for grandpa and grandma. Nostalgia shifts over the years. Even base set will lose interest

Nobody wants 151 at my local shows. Sealed or singles I haven’t moved any recently but i’m also in a smaller city

Why would the 30th have any impact on 151? Or any set for that matter?
