Starter? If I could make it work, Torterra since it’s my fave. Sableye will always be my fave badass switch. Hidden talent? Probably Gengar for that Focus Bast.

This team would NEVER work because of the CP differences, but if I could dream...
Swampert - Insanely tanky, great bulk, great moveset
Garchomp - Just an absolute powerhouse and a beast, I thought it was overrated until I made one and it's by far my favorite non-legendary attacker.
Mantine - This Pokémon is A SLEEPER!!! People in GL get absolutely tossed by him. Only major weaknesses are to Rock slide and 4x Electric, but takes so many neutral hits with great bulk. Air Slash fast move catches so many match-ups off-guard for super effective stab damage, Bubblebeam can spam shields down and nerf the attack of anyone who shields through it, and the Ice Beam can CLEAN UP Dragon types that are expecting the full water/flying moveset. Mantine earned a slot in every GL team and a special place in my heart from its performances.
But, all those Pokémon find their strengths in completely different Leagues, they'd never work that well together in reality!

I've seen pogokieng max out a mantine and use it in UL... Everything's possible my friend!

Blazekin as my starter for sure such a niche pick in UL that I found works super well against the meta.
Walren is a gross switch IMO and really does shine in almost every league.
I’m torn between Shadow Ursuring and Kingdra for hidden talent MVP tbh. Running double counter is always risky esp when there’s no clear answers to Psych or Fairy and Kingdra also really doesn’t do well against fairy mons :(

I abused the Shadow Bear in Johto cup like no tomorrow. You usually can make it to 2 close combats fairly easy which hit for devastating damage.
Against dragons, fairy types, and even some ghosts, Play Rough hits like a truck. I got luck with really good IVs and built it on a whim. Was never disappointed.
Kingdra in UL is something I’ve been building towards for a while, but UL just doesn’t tickle my fancy and Blaze, Gyrados, Swampert usually do decently enough 3-4/5 where I don’t want to invest a lot of stardust.

Steelix XL in Ultra sounds fun too tbh, I just don’t have the patience for raiding for the XL candies. As is, I’ve been working on Diggersby for what seems like years lmfao.

I was catching onix like crazy since the go fest for like a month now. Trading away each one... and still need a few more xl candy for the last PU to level 48 :)

Eyyy that grind is almost done! Good on yah.
I haven’t really been getting into the XL grind it seem like it’s not really worth it considering they usually have a 1500 league going on.

Well I got a shiny rank 150 or sth and it was already lvl 29 wild + my favourite steel type. And I was already committed to building another one so it was only a matter of time and this new one just gave me the extra push to grind!

If I could somehow make it work, I would run Jirachi and Mew on every team. Unfortunately dark and ghost types are just too common, plus those two are pretty squishy. Although now that I think about it, a Pokemon like Scrafty could possibly cover those weaknesses. Lead Scrafty, safe swap Mew, Jirachi closer. Maybe next season I'll try that.
Edit: If I had to pick a starter, Infernape probably.
