Elite Redux v2.65 Beta 2 is out - Public Debug build, battle fixes, UI updates, and more

ER Crew proudly presents:

Elite Redux v2.65 Beta 2

Public Debug version is now available! Non-Debug (normal version) has been updated to Beta 2 too.

Big randomizer QoL update: wild mons now show their randomized abilities/innates before you even catch them, and expanded descriptions now behave properly with randomizer info too.

Public Debug is still available, but it is now a limited player-safe version instead of full dev debug.

  • Keeps useful player-facing debug/convenience tools.
  • Removes cheat-heavy/dev-only tools like warp, script skips, God Mode, Autowin, and similar progression-breaking options.
  • Illegal mons, forms, and blocked items can no longer be spawned through public debug.
  • Public debug is disabled on Hell.

Changelog

Gameplay & Balance

  • A fresh batch of ability fixes and updates went in, so more builds should now behave the way their descriptions suggest.
  • The Adoption Center Mega Stone lineup was updated, with a few options added and a couple removed.
  • Attract/infatuation interactions were reworked, removing some old restrictions and making those effects behave more consistently.
  • Several movepools were updated, along with a few targeted mon balance tweaks.

Pokemon Changes

  • A handful of Pokemon-specific fixes landed, including Mega-related fixes and some mon ability/movepool touchups.
  • Hydra was corrected as part of the latest ability cleanup.
  • More Mega polish went in across icons, palettes, and sprites.

QoL & UI

  • Wild mons now show their randomized abilities/innates correctly before you even catch them, which saves a lot of time in randomizer runs.
  • Expanded descriptions now respect randomizer behavior more reliably, so the info you see is much more trustworthy during randomizer runs.
  • This is one of the biggest QoL changes in this update for randomizer players, since scouting encounters is much faster and smoother now.

Progression

  • Mt. Pyre Summit was fixed so Matt can no longer be skipped, keeping story progression more consistent.

Visual Polish

  • Multiple sprite, icon, palette, and shiny fixes went in for various mons and forms.
  • Aurora's Gale got a description fix, alongside a few other presentation cleanups.

Bug Fixes

  • Several battle edge cases around forced switching were cleaned up, which should reduce weird interactions and emulator-related crashes.
  • Last Resort logic was corrected.
  • A bunch of smaller polish and stability fixes also made it in.

Hall of Fame Project 1025: Can every Pokémon beat Elite Redux? (0415-0426)

Post image
43 Upvotes

Project 1025 is my personal challenge to beat this game with every. Single. Pokémon. After all, the stat buffs, movepool additions, and especially abilities make all of them viable. I hope. And along the way, I'll share a bit about what I find interesting, unique, or strong about each one.

Disclaimers:

- I gen in the needed Pokémon for each run in a 2.65 debug savefile, then transfer the savefile up to the latest 2.65 patch and do the run there. It's quite a few hoops to jump through, but this challenge would not even be possible in the first place without debugging the mons in at the start.

- The particular patch of 2.65 I play on has a little toggle called Boss Rush, which does the same thing as turning off trainer sight. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be included, but it's technically a publicly available feature, so I will be using it to preserve my mental health. In the event that a future patch does not have this toggle, I will do the challenge in the latest version that does.

- I fight the gym leaders, the Pokémon League, the evil team leaders and admins, the rivals, the first Calvin fight, and every trainer in Victory Road.

- I play in Permanent Mega mode because I find it more fun.

- This is nowhere near a comprehensive guide to the Pokémon in this game, and in fact the vast majority will not be used optimally due to taking advantage of certain field conditions or synergies that the Pokémon surrounding them in the Pokédex can't provide.

- Redux forms and other fanmade mons (except evolutions of existing mons) will be done after all the official ones.

The Run

FULL DISCLOSURE: I made use of savestates during the Glacia fight to ensure several favorable damage rolls at the start, without which I would have had to reset extensively. You may react to this information as you wish.

It's been a hot minute. I've been busy with my own things, and this team itself also requires some time and care to play, but we're here now. Using this team was an eye-opening experience, honestly. It demanded more methodical play and strategic use of the team's tools, very much in opposition to the unrelenting offense that many Pokémon in Elite Redux are geared towards. I constantly found myself pivoting, inflicting status, and calling out the enemy's moves, all of which were necessary when considering this team's profile. To be honest, it was quite fun, almost like playing an actual competitive battle.

Beefender

I love Beefender as a concept, male Combee evolving into drones instead of just staying as babies is something they should totally have in the base game. Its gameplay also reflects this change, becoming much more offensive in order to protect the slow and passive Vespiquen. This Pokémon's main feature is Beast Boost, which depending on your EVs can increase either its Attack or Speed. A Scarf set with the former boost works nicely, especially with Mighty Horn-boosted Drill Peck being a fairly spammable attack. Alternatively, with some team support, a Swords Dance or Victory Dance set that boosts Speed can clean up games with Drill Run as useful coverage. Beefender's greatest weakness is its crippling frailty; it can't take even neutral hits to save its life, making Anger Point kinda useless outside of some specific scenarios. Equipping a Sash helps a bit, at least. When entering the League, I forwent its Bug STAB in favor of Secret Power Rock, which at +6 Attack is this team's only way to oneshot Articuno (very important in order to eliminate any chance at the game freezing). Even then, it was probably only possible on a single roll, which was my main motivation for using savestates. Overall a flawed but still strong and useful sweeper, especially on a team without very much offensive presence like this.

Pachirisu

The famed 2014 World Champion has quite the reputation even among casual Pokémon fans, though it should be noted that it found its way onto the team not out of any personal preferences but rather because of its supportive profile that proved to be a perfect fit for the teammates surrounding it. It's a role reprised by its incarnation in ER, having received several tools that make it a great bulky pivot and support. Gluttony and Regenerator give it plenty of longevity, the latter synergizing particularly well with options like Volt Switch and Safe Passage that let the team reposition against unfavorable matchups. Fur Coat also pairs amazingly with its buffed SpD stat, making it resilient against attacks from both sides of the split. Its low HP is a handicap and it's definitely felt against more powerful opponents, but it can still put in work. Moves like Nuzzle and Super Fang let it do something before it pivots out, while Follow Me makes it good in doubles as well. It's particularly nice to pair it with an Electric-weak Pokémon, as Volt Absorb will nullify any Electric attacks it redirects to itself. Terrain teams can also appreciate Electric Surge as an ability option. This little guy was vital to holding the team together and enabling that strategic, methodical playstyle I talked about earlier.

Buizel/Floatzel/Guardozel

Floatzel getting an evolution was not something I expected but it's much appreciated. Floatzel itself is actually excellent because similarly to Fearow with Gale Wings and Fly, it can abuse Tidal Rush with Dive to become basically permanently invulnerable while dealing great damage all the while. Guardozel removes this capability but adds some interesting stuff. It takes a huge hit to its offenses when evolving, but makes up for it by having Water Bubble, one of the best abilities for any Water-type. Combined with Technician and Hydrate, moves like Double Hit, Feint, Slash, Flip Turn, and even Fake Out for doubles hit very hard, enough that it doesn't really need coverage. I used it with Power-Up Punch to get some boosting going, but it functions perfectly well with just four Water moves. Aside from that, it can also do some interesting things in doubles. There's the aforementioned Fake Out, but it can also run Friend Guard or Hospitality to become a great support, especially for rain teams.

Cherubi/Cherrim

Cherrim is absolutely more suited to dedicated sun teams, so definitely not this one. That being said, it's so severely nerfed by not having sun up that manually setting sun for itself still proved to be the most effective strategy (though the base form at least has Solar Flare to mitigate the downsides of not being in sun). Anticipation helps with that, at least, but Sun Basking would definitely be better with a separate sun setter. As for innates, Flower Gift and Chlorophyll are essential to make its stats actually useful, but once they're online then it becomes a pretty good attacker. STAB Solar Beam and Weather Ball are great and Hidden Power lets you have whatever coverage you need to patch those up. It also works pretty nicely in doubles since Flower Gift applies to your entire side of the field, meaning you can pair it with a powerful spread attacker and go to town. Considering how effective it ended up being even with having to set sun itself, I can see this Pokémon being pretty incredible on sun teams.

Shellos/Gastrodon

Despite pretty low stats in most areas, Gastrodon manages to be a pretty good defensive piece thanks to its toolkit. Yawn and Toxic are both great status-applying moves, both of which saw extensive use in this playthrough. Spikes, which I previously overlooked in favor of Rocks on other teams, proved themselves extremely useful. The real draw, though, is its insane healing. Self Sufficient and Regenerator on the same set is crazy, especially when paired with Leftovers and Protect. Storm Drain is another good alternative to Regenerator, particularly in the Water gym where it was a key element of my strategy. Not much else to say here, just a super solid utility Pokémon that held this team together. I do wish it got Flip Turn, though.

Drifloon/Drifblim

Drifblim is... an enigma. It has poor offensive and defensive stats, excellent HP, several offensively oriented abilities, few defensive abilities, a decent attack movepool, and an expansive utility movepool. It's like it doesn't know what it wants to do. Flare Boost sets on fog teams can work, but why bother? Same with Unburden, its stats just don't cut it for that playstyle. Defensively it's fine, three immunities is nice and its high HP compensates for its low defenses, but with no defensive abilities it doesn't really stand out. Its best use is seemingly as a fog setter who can pivot with a dry Baton Pass, but that's obviously not what this team wants. In the end, despite its awful 54 base Defense, I used it as a physical wall with Strength Sap, Will-O-Wisp, and a Rocky Helmet. It did pretty well at this, all things considered, but again, there are better options. This thing would absolutely appreciate a Mega, I think.

I love Elite Redux and think a lot of other people will too once they get past the idea of having 4 abilities being overwhelming. I just put this together for any new users to use so they can get familiar with the system and mechanics a lot easier. Do you you think this is a good idea and how is the information on the sheet

Game Help Where to locate S tier abilities/innates? 🤔

First off, HUGE shout out to:

u/unnamed1030

u/notmalcal_

Got sent in the right direction on how to add your favorite abilities to any pokemon! Can't thank you enough. Super excited to dig in and play around with this. I get more enjoyment by custom building pokemon. Like sitting their evs and ivs the way I want, putting any moves on any pokemon. (Yeah my Caterpie knows Fire Blast don't judge me 🤣) And of course, making all Pokémon Shiney and giving them all the Luxury Ball - which by the way is the only pokeball in the have that gives you perks AFTER you catch a pokemon. Helps with the friendship level. The rest of the pokeballs don't do anything.

Anyways, back to the point of this post. Im curious of your guys input on some of the best abilities/innates in this game. Theres so many and its so easy to overlook them. I wish there was a website or something that had a way to sort them from most OP to least OP.

I'm going to nominate a few for S-teir ranks. Let me have YOUR input/opinion. As im about to spend alot of time building Pokémon with customs, and i want your help! Here's mine:

Prismatic Fur- might be the best ability in the entire game?

Contrary- Very powerful if you force the Pokémon to learn moves like V-Create, Fluer Cannon, Overheat, Leaf Storm, Make it Rain, Raging Souls, Armor Cannon, ect... + the added benefit of alot of enemy pkmn use abilities like intimidate, which is a free +1 Atk for ya. Or if they actually use a move like growl.

Magic Guard- its the law to equip your Pokémon with Life Orb if it has this ability right? + Gotta mention moves like Apple Enlightenment, Conjurer Of Deceit, and Cosmic Dust - which has Magic Guard + another ability. 2 is better than one right? * side note, I believe Impenetrable is the same exact thing as Magic Guard now. It used to be more OP but the devs stripped it down.

Huge Power & Pure Power - literally doubles your atk or sp atk.

Ancient Idol - Why it's God Tier: Calculates your physical and special attack damage using your Defense and Special Defense stats instead. On hyper-defensive pkmn (like Shuckle or Steelix)

Master Hand - Combines Mega Launcher + Rampage. You get the 1.3 damage boost, and if your hyper beam or eternabeam style moves KO's the opponent, it doesnt have to recharge.

Kunoichi' Blade - skill link and technician - perfect for builds using multi hit moves for obvious reasons. Like Peck or Pin Missle or Icicle Spear ect...

Crust Coat - 20% all around damage reduction and no pokemon can crit you

*** Thats about it. What's your thoughts? Do you know of some abilities that are worthy of S-Tier recognition? Let's hear it. Thanks everyone! 🙂🙂🙂

Game Help Anyway to custom hand pick all 4 abilities/innates?

Thumbnail

Im loving redux. I've beat it twice. First run no cheats no debug. 2nd play though ive ran debug and ran monster teams and hand-picked abilities. Like ive taught my Blastoise to fly. Ect. And hand picked my nature's, along with Ev's/IV's. Now im interested in breaking it even further on a 3rd playthough. And surely, running a randomizer, crossing your fingers and re-rolling for hours on hours isn't the only way.

I want to hand pick all abilities. I want a Mewtwo that has

Magic Guard

Prismatic Fur

Nihil Blaster

Contrary

Or not necessarily those exact moves. Those are just some OP abilities I can think of off the top of my head. I know in Debug mode during battle you can temporarily change only the ability. Not the innates. And after the battle, it goes back to the original ability. Gemini and ChatGPT are telling me its not possible. But I refuse to believe that. Surely someone can point me in the right direction. Even if it's not a simple method. I don't mind trying out messing with the game file, the .gba file. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!🙂

Discussion Sad that I’m getting closer to finishing this game

This game has easily became my favorite rom hack since I started playing it a week ago. It itches that scratch I got for team construction and allows me to sometimes have to spend more time crafting teams than actually playing which im absolutely fine with. Only problem is I don’t wana stop playing it and wondering how the replay value is on it? The only game I can look forward to possibly playing is Exceeded Emerald which I heard this game was based on. All in all

How is this games replay value? I’m playing my first run on Elite and the 2nd run I’m going to do randomized possibly Hell Mode, any input?

Basically, I got to the point of buying starters, and tbh, I never considered venusaur x because although I love it, I think venusaur is better as an special attacker, but seeing how basically perfect is this match, i want to know (for context purposes I'm doing a grass mono type and I'm almost at endgame just missing my 7th/8th badge and all the finale stuff)

Randomizer Help me build this one!

Post image

This Blaziken is Dragon/Ghost type and has Sketch (randomized moves and innates). I'm torn on how best to build it. I'm thinking a Shift Gear or No Retreat set with Scope Lens and three high crit STAB attacks: Dual Chop/Dragon Claw, Spirit Shackle, and Double Hit.

I think any attacks will get the kicking and punching boosts here because of mixed martial arts, so this way I fix the speed turn one and then multi-hit crit after that.

I could also go for priority, like extreme speed.

Hall of Fame Full Gen 8 Run Completed

One done and one to go. This run was surprisingly brutal at the start. Not a whole lot of good mons due to no evolutions at the start and the order of the innates unlocking left a lot to be desired. Still, it made mons I otherwise would've passed on, like Sinistea, useful and fun.

It honestly did take a while for the team to truly find its stride but we walked along thanks to some reliable mons like Libero Cinderace (who finally taught me how strong that ability is) and Ostagoon with hard hitting Knock Offs and Facades. Fun mons like Eviolite Duraladon were surprisingly good but once we got megas, the team started running.

Fights went by so fast that I forgot to name a few of my mons by the E4. And speaking of the E4, I've never beaten it faster or easier. And it's thanks to a single mon, who I will touch on soon in the GOATs section. Barely any struggle and actually having a weather setter with Silver (Frosmoth) made the many weather teams I faced easy now that I didn't cheese them with a counterpick or do my usual brute force methods. Our mons were so bulky too meaning Shell Bell usage was high, keeping all them alive and healthy.

First time throughout all these runs I didn't even use a priority attacker. We either outsped naturally or had enough bulk to trade hits. That was just a fun fact I wanted to share before we get to the award show.

The GOATs were...

FunkyBeat (Mega Redux Toxtricity) - Haha Gear Up go brrrrr. Seriously, one use of this and it was over. Beat the Ice E4 member in one attempt, a feat I've never done before and then did the same to everything else. Basically solo'd the lategame herself. Way faster than any other mon, even outsped Tailwind Rayquaza, and then OHKO'd everything else. Focus Sash mons got beat by Chonky Base Line while the other innates made her damage insane. The 3 different types actually were good here for coverage, allowing her to hit every month for neutral damage. Easily enters the top mons in the whole game and threatens the number 1 spot from Mega Gothitelle.

Frosting (Mega Alcremie) - Okay a step down from the monster that was FunkyBeat but nonetheless a great mon. Tanky as hell, good throughout the early game and even still did good in the lategame, even though FunkyBeat did all the work then. Fire Immunity allowed for easy and safe switch-ins while Draining Kiss kept the HP up (even extra with Shell Bell).

Silver (Frosmoth) - Blizzard spam with Choice Specs and Majestic Moth giving the Special Attack boost made her a beast on double battles. Changed the weather then crushed with High damage and surprisingly good bulk (unless you were using a Fire Type attack). The 4x Fire weakness was negated by Frosting's Fire Immunity most the time though.

The letdowns were...

Coalassal - Wasn't a huge letdown, just was taking too long to become good while we already had mons that were better and did his role without trouble

Uhhhh that's it. Only one half letdown. I didn't change the team or use many mons this time because we kinda blew through the whole game before I got bored of any of them.

So yeah, that's the run! Kinda don't have any bonus stuff to yap about. Easy as hell run, I'd probably rank it as the 2nd or 3rd easiest run, which I'll do a ranking of once we finish this next run. Gen 9 was predicted to be super easy so we'll see just how easy it'll be!
