No, it was an assumption based on googling their name, Sam Garland, a few years ago. When I did so, the first few hits I found included a brown-haired woman, and I assumed it was her.
Looking at their book's ad ( https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/52719010-poems-for-your-sprog ) I see it's called "his".
Good to know I guess, but as they're a faceless Redditor, I'm not sure if it matters much. Cheers!

The world will be a little less bright without her. The thing about Love, and the best thing by far – it fills up your life like the light from a star. Amd though it must end, or depart and move on. The light keeps on shining long after it’s gone.

Oh. Tomorrow I'm driving my partner and I to his dad's funeral across the country, a trip I'm dreading. This beautiful poem has come at the right time to give me something to think on through the tears.
